Just reinstalled ffmpegX on my Mac OS 10.2.6 system. I had ffmpegx 0.0.6 something and decided to see if a new one was out. I installed 0.0.7d along with the engines (but not the libogg and libvorbis libs -- I have those installed by fink).

Anyway. when I start encoding an MPEG4 video to MPEG1 for a video CD, ffmpeg (not ffmpegX -- I checked in top) starts using 600MB of memory and grinds my system to a halt. A couple times (I tried this multiple times) a dialog even came up warning me that my system is low on memory and may start acting weird (it did!).

ffmpegX worked fine before. I don't know what's causing this memory overload. Any ideas? I can post more details if you need to know them.

  2. I'm not sure about what could be causing this issue as I never encountered it before. Does it happen with just one file, or with all your files?

All right: it works fine with the other movie I used awhile back. It's this particular video file that's choking up the works.

The movie I'm trying to convert is an Apple QuickTime/iMovie MPEG-4 that a friend of mine produced, and I'm using mpeg2enc to convert to VCD (per the preset).ffmpeg runs for a little while (using most of the CPU and boatloads of memory), and then yuvscaler spits out an error of some sort (if the system doesn't get a VM overload). I'll recreate the error later so I can give you the exact text of the error, but for now I may be able to get my hands on a more raw version of my friend's video.

Results (happens after about 10-15 seconds of working and using gobs of memory):

**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!

    Encoding then quits.

    Here's a snapshot from top -w while it's encoding:

    Hi all,
I just wanted to say, I get that too but with Version 0.6m, but only after my 4-5 encodes without quitting the program and restarting it. It works fine after I quit the program and restart it.
