  1. I made a mistake and just did a plain copy
of a aviseq.dat file from a vcd I had created.

The disk is broken, but the .dat file can
not be played by anything on my pc.

    Is there anyway to fix?

    Thx, Supercrew

Yes, you can use VCDGear2.0 to convert and transfer the .dat on the CD back to an .mpg file on your computer, then you can start again. VCDGear is in the TOOLS section on this site.

  3. Thanks,

I used VCDGear to go from dat --> mpg,

but note that I had to:

    1) Select raw2mpg as the conversion I wanted to use.
I guess Explorer just copied the raw segments.
    2) Turn off <Fix Errors> options because it kept giving
me a file that was only 1/3 original size and
    unplayable on pc.

Lesson learned, don't use explorer to copy *.dat
    files from VCD.

***Note: That you can just copy the *.mpg Mpeg2 files
directly off of a SVCD and they will play fine on
    the PC.

  4. It seems that you have solved your problem but I just wanted to let you know that I had the same problem a few months back. I had to do the same thing until I bought a new hard-drive and re-installed my OS. Instead of installing all the burning progs and encoding progs I had, I just loaded the ones that worked well for me. (Nero, CDRWin, TMPGEnc, VirtualDub, and AVI2VCD) I was then able to copy dat files directly from VCD's. I discussed this with a tech at Acer and he suggested that my ASPI layer probably had problems from all the different vxd's and stuff. (I refuse to install Easy CD-Creator on my system now since it has had so many problems with other free and shareware progs)This doesn't help your current situation since I can't tell you if this was the actual cause of the problem, but if you ever re-install your OS, you should try to copy that dat file again just to see if it will work.

If you copy DAT files from VCD to hard drive in Explorer, just rename the file extension from DAT to MPG and click on it. Geez.

If he's having the same problem I did, it has nothing to do with simply renaming the file extension. My problem was in my IOSYSBUS. I COULD NOT COPY the file. Windows would not copy the file correctly. It was always corrupted afterwards. Changing the extension did nothing if the file did not copy correctly to begin with.
