Yes I am totally new to this and I am researching like crazy before my new burner shows up. Please bare with me.
I thought I had it made by deciding on DVD-X Xpress but the nice lady who answered their cust support line said no go using my NEC. She said that they are working on it and MAYBE the Platinum version will support it..she had no idea when it would be released.![]()
So now my question, what other alternates do I go with to make nice backups of my DVD movies? Free is always ggod, but I will of course buy whatever gives me the best/easiest alternative. (I'd like to burn to just one DVD like DVD-X Xpress does.)
Can someone offer up a menu of what I need to make my new dream a reality..please include links if possible.
Note: I've looked at Nero.com, but don't know what I need, and I also see lots of talk about DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink etc...but I don't know which one(s) I need to make a true copy of my 5.1 DVD's. It's quite overwhelming.
Thanks so much for your input, and here's hoping I can become a pro at this sooner than later!

If the DVD you are backing up is single layer (DVD5) then you an use DVD Decryptor. If it is dual layer (DVD9) then you can use DVD Shrink. Both are freeware and there are guides on how to use them on the left. DVD2ONE is also good for backing up discs, but it isn't free. A guide to using it is on the left. (Actually links to the guides are on the left).

Alfer, you have come to the right site. The folks on this site, including the guy who runs it have a file cabinet of knowledge at your finger tips. Sorry about your NEC not being supported. I use a variety of tools to back-up and depends on want I want in the end product. But for your stiuation you want it easy as can be and a decent quality. I have DVD X Copy also, I like it for simple back-ups but if you want more control try DVD Shrink. Get it to the left under tools. It's already been recommended by the post above me. It's a program that takes care of two steps. After that you just use your favorite burning program to burn to DVD. Follow the guide and you can't go wrong. After that then you can get some other tools and play with them. DVD Decrypter is a must have program. Yes it will help identify wether you have a single layer disk or a dual layer disk. Again read and search the guides to the left on backing up. All the work has been done for you by dedicated folks who love this stuff. Enjoy and don't get frustrated. Just get on and post if you get stuck or don't get something in a guide. Take care!
