  1. Hi,

I have been doing some research on video card and capture card. What I want to achieve is capture TV programs / VHS and burn them on DVD.

I am new to this and have a few questions:-

    - Do these two cards (ATI All-in-wonder 9000 / 9700 Pro) allow capturing to MPEG2 format? Can they do a good job?

    - What sound card would be good to go with these two cards?

    - Is a high end video card needed for capturing to MPEG2 format? Or is it really a high end capture card more crucial?

    - I used to have ATI All-in-wonder 7500 and had so much noise in the captured audio tracks. Could an on-board sound card be the problem?

    - If I am getting a new Intel Pentium 4 machine (2.4-2.6 GHz) , what hardware configurations would you suggest (motherboard, type and size of RAM, etc )?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stupidmice

Yes they both capture capture in MPEG-2 as well MPEG-1, AVI, Trigger Motion, Windows Media and of course ATI's VCR mode. I have a 9700 AIW pro setup with an additional ATI TV Wonder VE for two tuner capability, called multi-view or Picture in Picture. I use mine all the time to schedule, record and author DVD's which look like the original source. It up to you wether or not you need a high end card. Alot of people swear by the Canopus Capture Card (Model?). The ATI cards do alot more than just capture with their Multi Media Center Software. I have run nothing but Sound Blaster Audigy and Audigy 2 sound cards. Have never experiencing any sound issues with any program. I never subsribe to on board sound as a permenant solution. As far as configuration I will only say this, buy the best your money will allow. There are alot of good motherboards out there with alot of features. Determine your requirements and go from there. I run a P-4 2.4, 2.5. 2.8 and 3.03 as well as a few AMDs. Buy at least 512 of RAM but 1gig is what I run, plenty of head room. I like Corsiar Ultra Ram. Hope my 2 cents helps.

I have the 7200 and 7500 cards, and they work amazingly well. No problems. I only use the best CPU/RAM/soundcards. My specs are listed in my profile.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
