I was in another forum today and they were talking about how some TV Tuner card's can watch channels that are blocked out by the cable company by "cracking the channels"
do any of you guys know how to do this ? I would really like to know since I only have the Basic cable and would really like the other channels
Thanks for your Help

If your cable company is blocking channels by filtering the horizontal or vertical sync, a digital capture card might be able to lock-on to the signal and produce a picture. This type of filtering is usually done by the cable box in your home.
If your cable company is filtering channels by using a low pass filter or some other frequency specific filtering, then you are out of luck, as there is no video signal to lock on to. This type of filtering is usually done on the pole or tap outside your home.
Either and/or both types can be used, even within the same neighborhood.

With our ANALOGUE caputure cards you will only succeed in capturing (and cracking) ANALOGUE broadcasts. There are many ways which cable and satellite companies encrypt their channels. Firstly, you must find out which encryption technique your supplier uses. In Europe Nagravision and Cable Crypt are both popular.
If the encryption method uses vertical/horizontal sync adjustment (as mentioned earlier in the thread) then you can download utilities (such as ccd) which allow you to change the sync values and correct polarity of the incoming signal.
