  1. Hello. I wonder if someone might be able to explain this for me. I ripped the Super Furry Animals - Rings Around The World DVD, using Smartripper, then used DVD2AVI which left me with 13 wav files (2ch 448Kbps 48KHz). I then used Musicmatch to convert them to mp3, but upon playback they have a high pitched ringing tone throughout the songs (even encoded at 192kbps). Have I done something wrong? Does Musicmatch just suck, or could the audio be protected in some way? It sounds ok played as wav. Hmmn. If anyone can help me I'll be very grateful. Cheers.

Do you normally encode mp3's from such a high quality source? If it was the first time then I suggest that you try to encode another high quality audio source to see what that turns out like. You could also try using a different encoder. I think that the problem lies with the encoder.

  3. Thanks for the pointer - you were right, it was the encoder causing the problem. I had a bit of a look around for encoders - http://users.belgacom.net/gc247244/analysis.htm was a bit of an eye opener for me. And sure enough, LAME worked great - http://home.pi.be/~mk442837/lame3.89beta.zip for anyone attempting to do something similar to me.

Yeah, I was going to tell you to get Lame, its the best. Some encoders are pure crap as they cannot deal with certain sampling frequecy rates and bitrates.
