    damn, im so frustrated....

iv been having problems for a week now... still yet to burn a single DVD corectly...

today, i totally deleted all dvd burning programs from HD

downloaded the NEWEST versions of DVDShrink2.3, Nero 5.5.10.30 and RecordNow Max

i have a DVD of The Transporter... i used DVDShrink and erased the languages I dont need, then saves all the files to my HD

    then....

i used Nero and selected New DVD Video.... then found the files on the right side in the folder I put them in on my HD... then selected them all and dragged to the left side folder under VIDEO_TS... and left the audio folder empty.... then i burned it.... thats it... i didnt do anything else

i put the finished disk in my computer and it works fine, i can play it just fine, but when I put in my standalone dvd player, it wont play

so i opened recordnow max and did the same thing using the same files on my HD.... i then selected Create a Data Disk, selected the files from the folder in my HD and then burned... that it, thats all i did... and it wont work on my stand alone either....

both versions are trial versions and I have used 2 differnt types of media

iv found 2 differnt guys on this website that have the EXACT model dvd player I have and they both say it works.... so its got to be something I am doing wrong... but what could it be??? i guess im an idiot... iv read the guides and searched a MILLION times.... i guess i need someone to be kind enough to go STEP by STEP through it with me, cuz i must be doing 1 little thing wrong....

    thanks guys for any ideas....

well i have one of my wifes Tae Bo dvds here... im putting it through dvdencrytor only.... gonna read and write using that program only... should be very simple... if it dont work, there must be a problem with my dvd player or media... but if it does work.... then something wrong with what iv done so far...

when I used dvdshrink is was version 2.2 and everytime i have tried to burn using nero or recordnow max i have used the same files from my HD that i got from using that dvdshrink 2.2

could the dvdshrink have done something wrong??? just dont understand why it plays fine in my PC....

it probably your standalone dvd player (must be an older one)

what the name of your standalone and year it was made?

u probably need to burn it as a udf vers. 1.02 instead of the new udf vers.1.50 i.e. DVDVIDEO (instant cd/dvd 7.0 or nero burning rom has these options)

    if that don't work

download a free trial of gear pro 6

if it don't played after u burnt it with gear

u got a seriously old dvd player

and u need to buy a new one, cuz gear plays in everything

Don't know about the settings on Nero because I use RecordNow but I suspect the default settings should work. So put all the DVDshrink files into a VIDEO_TS folder then burn that folder. Some say to make the disc more compatible with DVD players that you should also put an empty AUDIO_TS folder on the disc (not in the VIDEO_TS folder) but most of the discs I have burned don't have the folder and play just fine in all three DVD player I have.

    Follow this :

I know it works, my stand-alone can play UDF 1.05, but somebodys at work can't, so I've test burnt a DVD-R using this mini-guide, and it still plays in my stand-alone, so I'm seeing if the guy at work can play this DVD-R

But, its been burnt in UDF 1.02, mainly to see what would happen, give it a try though

    don't get frustrated

this time about 18 months ago

    dvd burners was 600.00

    with no dvd copying software

    which kinda defeated the purpose

and when u call customer service on why u couldn't burn dvds

u would get cussed out (they wouldn't take the time to tell u that dvd copy wasn't legal)

so imagine how frustrated we were

luckily, the people that fould vcdhelp.com (this site old name) on the net

    were the lucky one

    Hello Scott

There is an easier way than using NERO and it always works for me (never could get NERO to work correctly myself).

Simply follow the guide for using DVDSHRINK on the DOOM9 website. It seems to be an excellent guide to me. Now the IMPORTANT part is when you get to the BURNING stage. You want to use the program called ImgTool (classic version) to create an image from the VIDEO_TS folder of files that DVDSHRINK spits out.

When you load up ImgTool (classic version) it asks where your SOURCE DIRECTORY is and you select it using the BROWSE function (or you can type it in directly). This is the trick ...

Make sure your VIDEO_TS folder is inside ANOTHER folder that has ANY filename that is 8 characters or less (standard format nothing funky like spaces or dashes etc. although underscore is OK). Then inside this FOLDER you have your VIDEO_TS folder as well as a folder YOU create called AUDIO_TS

So your DIR structure is like this:

    MYMOVIE (FOLDER)
    |
    ----- AUDIO_TS (EMPTY FOLDER)
    |
----- VIDEO_TS (FOLDER WITH FILES FROM DVDSHRINK)

So in ImgTool (classic version) you select the MYMOVIE folder (or whatever you call it) and then it will create a single IMAGE file for you.

You then simply burn the IMAGE file using DVD Decrypter in ISO-->READ mode.

Give it a try ... I'd be highly surprised if it didn't work ... and if it doesn't work then something is wrong with DVDSHRINK ... either a user error or perhaps something about THIS particular DVD that "screws up" DVDSHRINK.

    - John "FulciLives" Coleman

    P.S.
Near the top of the start of the DVDSHRINK guide (on the doom9 website) is a LINK to download the newest version of ImgTool (classic version). You can also find a link to download ImgTool (classic version) on this very website by CLIKING on the TOOLS section (along the left hand side).

    *** EDIT ***
I was just over at the DOOM9 website and read the new NEWS items and it seems that DVDSHRINK 2.3 is just out.

I use Nero all the time to burn "Video_TS" & "Audio_TS" folders to a DVD-R that will play on my stand alone DVD players. Here's how I do it. First start up the program and select "DVD-Video" as the type of disc being burned. Now click on the "ISO" tab and use the following settings.

    File/Directory name lenght = ISO Level 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 chars)
    Character Set = ISO 9660
Joliet = Unchecked (Make sure this box is left unchecked)
Relax ISO Restrictions = All Unchecked (Make sure these 3 boxes are unchecked)

Next click the "Label" tab and name your disc under "Volume Label".
Now click on the "Dates" tab and under "File Dates" select "Use This Date".
Then click on the "Burn" tab and under the "Action" heading use the following options.

    Determine maximum speed = Unchecked
    Simulation = Unchecked
    Write = Checked

Then set the "Write Speed" to whatever the media you are using supports. Then click on the button labeled "NEW".
A new window should open up with a AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folder inside it's root directory.
Now using the file browser find (usually on the right side of the screen) the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders that contain your DVD data and drag it into the window that was created when you clicked on the "Burn" button previously. If a window pops open and asks "Do you want to overwrite existing files or folders then Select "YES". Now you are ready to burn your DVD. Click on the Record icon and Under the "Burn" tab click on the "Write" button. This should start the burning process. Hoped this helped and GOOD LUCK !!!

I would like to point out that the ImgTool/DVD Decrypter method ALWAYS works. I have NEVER heard of anyone having trouble doing this. The software is FREEWARE and easy to download and use. No jumping through hoops ala NERO to get it to work correctly.

I must admit I do use NERO for creating MUSIC and DATA CD discs. I even use it for the odd VCD disc. I use it to copy CD discs (whatever the format) but NERO really totally sucks when it comes to making DVD discs.

As for the people who INSIST that NERO works fine to make a DVD disc I offer this ... since SO many OTHER people ARE having problems with NERO just leave US alone and use a method that WORKS every single time NO MATTER who uses it. Plus, as I said, it is FREE software.

So please STOP trying to shove NERO as a tool for DVD creation.

I'm sure player compatibility has a lot to do with it, but I ALWAYS use Nero's "DVD Video" setting and have never had a problem. Make sure you have the latest version of Nero.

    i must say this

they came out with the new system DVD video (udf 1.05)

    for better compatibility

that the new technique most burning programs use now

though it don't work on older players

burning program like dvd decryptor which still use the old system (1.02)
will still play on the new systems

but it won't work the other way around

Thanks for the defense Vance43211. I do know about the udf 1.05, 1.02 compatibility issues. I have been burning DVD's long enough to know about this problem. Thanks for pointing it out though. FulciLives, NO I am not saying or did I say anywhere in my original post that Nero is the best software for burning DVD's. I only posted the method that I have been using successfully because Nero is one of the pieces of software that the original poster listed that he has. That's the only reason. Nothing more.

  24. I used to have problems all the time w/Nero burning rom, Not really problems, but just got too frustrated having to drag files over etc,,, My final solution may be what you need. I do two things, either I use Record Now Max or most of the time I use Nero Express! Which has yet to fail me!!
Just open nero express and at the startup splash screen under "which recorder to use" make sure your DVD one is selected, then just click on "DVD Video Files" on next screen just open up your folder/file you saved your decrypted movies in and select all and click on ADD, then finished and then next screeen click burn. You don't have to have a VIDEO_TS or anything. I always save my decypted files to a folder named "reencoded movies". I have yet to have a problem. Good luck, hope it works for you too.

  25. I never mind if people give constructive criticism about tools, but I hate it when people bash tools because they can't get them to work(not including buggy software).

I've done over 50 DVDs in my short time, and Nero has always worked 100%.

Everyone has different system configs, different needs and different levels of knowledge on PC, OS, and the whole DVD process, which is the reason we have such a diverse toolbox of programs. Use what works for you, and leave the rest. By all means report issues, but try and be a little more mature.

  26. Scott,

As you can see from all the posts, there are many ways to create and burn DVDs. From your original post, you have successfully created a DVD. Before giving up, try playing one of your burned DVDs in someone elses newer DVD player. I think they all will play fine because you are doing everything correctly. Have you tried using a RW burnable DVD on your stand alone player? Believe it or not, they do work on many older stand alones. Also, R burnable DVDs work in more older stand alones when the discs are burned using DVD-ROM settings. Both Nero and Record Now Max have these options, but since I'm not at my home computer right now, I can't tell you where the options are located. Remember, your computer reads these R DVDs as DVD-ROM files, and so do stand alones. From all my readings over the past year, people seem to feel that Record Now Max creates DVDs that are compatable on more stand alone players. Hope this helps!

  27. First off. I'll take the burner.

I read through the various comments about your dvd player. You'll get a few people saying it does DVD-R (probably the expensive media), most say it wont. Then there is VCD and SVCD, and even a few people that said that it had problems playing normal DVD's (did you ever get the firmware upgrade for your player????)

Here is my suggestion, go to wal-mart and buy the apex 1110. They are $40 here in Texas(should be comparable wherever you are). You will then be able to play every format under the sun (except divx) and think about how much money you'll save on high blood pressure medication.

Seriously, it sounds like you are trying to put the ole' square peg through the round hole. Some says it works, some say it dont. Why fart around with that 3+ year old DVD player. Go get a new one that is cheap and will play all of those "coasters" that you have been making. Sounds like you have already blown $40 in DVD-R media.

Okay, first I would like to thank everyone VERY much for helping out.... iv only been here on this site for about a week and have found you guys to be very helpful!!!! thanks alot

I got good news / bad news....

got my wifes Tae Bo DVD last night (i knew it was a 1 layer dvd) and threw it in DVDDycryter.... then all I did was READ and then WRITE.... 2 very simple steps.... no erasing subtitles, compressing video quality, etc

and after AT LEAST an hour, probably longer (2x dvdr, need to buy some 4x)..... it was done... i then went straight to my standalone and popped it in.... and guess what... i solved my problem of "will my dvd player even play dvdr disks" because it WORKED!!!!!!!!!! after about a week, that is the first DVD to actually play in my standalone.....

I still have those same files saved on my HD (the transporter) that I did using DVDShrink2.2 a week ago..... so I opened up Nero Burning Rom, and closed the wizard and selected DVD Data and NOT DVD Video.... everything before I was selecting dvd video.... so I then made sure it was set on 1.02 and then burned....

I then went to bed becuase it was about 1am.... when I woke up I went straight to PC to get the disk... but my PC was off.... very wierd?? my PC never is off... i know it wasnt wife or kid cuz they were in bed before me... so i dont know what happened... anyway, i got the dvd and looked at it, and it looked as if it was fully written.... so i put it in my standalone, and guess what........................ PLEASE CHECK DISK

i didnt have enough time to do it again, cuz I had to come here to work... but tonight I think im gonna totally delete the transporter files and download dvdshrink2.3 and reshrink a different movie and try it again exactly the same and see if it works.....

also thought about trying the imgtool way.... since I did have success using DVDDryptor.... maybe this way is a good way for me????

    scott015,

Record now works very well with older models. I have no idea how you compressed the files using dvdshrink but it is possible that your player does not like the way it was done. My recommendation is still to try DVD2one and do a full disk copy and then burn that using Record Now.

Nero works as well but I had to change 4 ver. #'s before it worked for me. I don't know which ver. I am using now but it was a headache.
    Recordnow worked right away.

I like dvdshrink because of there previews but I have had some freezing using that program. I have had better luck with DVD2one and other programs.
All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....
