There is no reason to drag the files to a new VIDEO_TS folder. When DVD shrink asks for the target folder, choose the blank VIDEO_TS folder you created to save the video files in. Then when you open Nero, drag the empty AUDIO_TS folder to the work space in Nero. Then drag the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVD shrink to the same work space in Nero under the audio folder. DO NOT mess with the files in the video folder. Just leave them exactly as DVD shrink created them. Choose DVD (udf/iso) in Nero, use the settings posted by KTH above. Go to the udf tab and make sure physical partition and UDF 1.02 are chosen. Then burn the disc. See if that helps.

  2. The easiest way to backup your own dvds is using dvd decrypter,dv2one/dvdshrink then nero. There are plenty of guides out there that explain this especially doom9!! (respect) but in short this is is how get a working backup 99.5% of the time. Make a directory that has 3 folders in it SOURCE, VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS. Decrypt the DVD using DVD decrypter in File Mode with main movie selected to the SOURCE dir. Once decrypted load the vobs you've now got into powerDVD or similar just to make sure the film looks ok ( if it doesn't try decrypting using ifo mode with stream processing). Open dvd2one show it the SOURCE folder containing the decrypted files. point dvd2one to the VIDEO_TS folder for the destination. The select the stream you want (leave the audio unless you are certain what tracks are need/not needed). once done load NERO and select NERO EXPRESS (use version 5.5.10.x at least). Select your DVD recorder from the option box then DVD Video files. When browsing for the files goto the directory that has SOURCE,VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and highlight both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS and click ADD then FINISHED. You need to add both even though AUDIO_TS is empty. Burn and voila! This has only failed me once and it was to do with stream information being wrong stemming from the decryption.

    Scott ...

Please do yourself a favor and try the ImgTool (classic version) program to make an IMAGE file and then try burning it with DVD Decrypter. It WILL work! If it doesn't then the problem is with DVDSHRINK ... either with the way the program interacts with THE TRANSPORTER or it could be a USER error.

But assuming DVDSHRINK worked then the ImgTool/DVD Decrypter method will not fail you.

  5. scott015,

Nero was probably not the best tool to start if you are a newbie on dvdr. Now that you have established player-media compatibility (usually the most annoying issue), you can check step by step to isolate the problem. Before you burn anything, try to play the TS file using computer dvd player, and only if you are satisfied with the result (movie quality, subtitles, audio, etc.) then go burning.

One tool that has worked for me consistently without having to change any initial settings: CopyToDvd. All you have to do is burn video option and identify the TS file. The prog. will do the rest. And it is faster than making image first before burning.

btw, 2x should burn in ~30 min.

And don't give up! With all the coasters I've made, it would have been cheaper to go out and buy a dvd player that plays rw's, though...

  6. As fucil(sp?) mentioned earlier, try this http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink2-main.htm
It is a step by step guide you were asking for earlier.
    Peace

  7. I use RecordNow DX to burn DVD(sometimes DVDDecrypter),works perfectly on DVD player everytime if you add the AUDIO_TS folder and select UDF+Joliet,TAO closed.
I would use Ifoedit and read the guide( www.doom9.org )to ensure compatibilty.
BTW...UDF 1.5 was intended to be used with data(ie packet writing on DVD/RW),use 1.02 or 2.01 for video.

What may work for some may not work for others. I have not had any problems with Nero but prefer using ImgTools and DVDecrypter for simplicity. Nero has a habit of checking, organizing, etc. the DVD file structure that works perfectly well my settop player but gives me an error message if I don't fix it with dummy files, fix the IFOs, etc. so I've stopped using it for burning purposes.
One method you could try scott, works for me at least it this: Use whatever program you're used to to make your new VOBs. I prefer the CCE, Maestro package for quality. After this I always run the IFOs through IfoEdit and run correct VTS sectors. It's just a good way of double checking that everything will point, navigate where it should. Create an image in ImgTools and load this image into Daemon Tools to check with a software DVD player. Then burn with the image with DVDecrypter. I know it sounds like alot of steps but I have yet to produce a coaster on DVD.
Just remember also that just because the DVD plays on your PC does not mean everything is OK for your settop. Software players read the DVD differently than a standalone so just run a quick checklist of steps to do through before proceeding to burning.

    Oh geez ...

Do you ALL realize that most of the method's you are telling this poor guy to use involve software that you either have to pay or rip off by downloading it from KaZaA or some such means?

My method is simple and works and uses FREEWARE. Obviously NERO is not working for Scott and telling him to use RecordNowMAX or any other PAY program he very well may NOT have is not very good help! Especially when a freeware solution exists.

And the person that told him to use Maestro?!?!?! Isn't that like a $1,000 plus program? I mean really now! I gotta laugh!

im wonderin if his burner is - or +. cause if its positive your screwed, but if its negative your screwed too. if you have a dual and you were burning with + try burnining the movie with - it will give you more compatability.

If you read my post carefully I wrote : Use whatever program you're used to to make your new VOBs. I prefer the CCE, Maestro package for quality.
I don't see anyting telling him to use this method, just saying the method I personally use.
These forums would be alot more helpful if people stuck to the subject at hand instead of methodically going through each post to find one they can reply to and look good. :P

AND I ALWAYS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM,.. it never copies, it stops before it starts stating some error, i can copy disc to disc if its small enough, but not make my on through DATA on RECORDNOW..... someone help me .help me stop makin beer coasters.. plz

  16. Fulcilives,

RecordNow Max has a 30 day trial version. If it works, it's worth the investment. Buying a cheap DVD player that will play anything is less expensive that making a bunch of coasters. Just my opinion.
