  1. hello again

Not having a lot of luck here as you can see from my previous post.

So now I decide to take the Divx.avi file and make an mpeg-2 using TMPGenc. I get a message saying that I cannot play an mpeg-2 because there is no DVD software on my HD. I ignore that message and try to convert the file anyway. then I get another message saying " the file cannot be created".

I DO have the Divx codecs on my machine, I can see them using Device Manager. I also have the dreadful Ulead MF2 isn't that an mpeg-2 player?

What else could I possibly need? What does TMPGenc need to allow it to make the conversion FROM a DivX .avi to an mpeg-2?

If only I can get over this hurdle I think I will be OK! I have a lot of DivX .avi files that I'd like to have on a DVD or SVCD but I can't convert them so it works

This is like "Do It Yourself Dentistry" !!

Thanks again to all who reply 8)

  2. This may seem obvious but just in case, when you say

have you checked that the output filename and directory is valid (AFAIK TmpGenc won't create the directory if it doesn't exist, many programs do) and that the destination disk is writable (not your CD drive by mistake).

  3. bugster,

You were correct! The path statement was pointing to a folder I had deleted, apparently TMPGenc won't create a folder if needed.

Now I can sit for a few hours while I try to convert from the Divx to MPEG2.. after that I am clueless as to what to do with it. Maybe I can use Instant Copy to author/burn a DVD.

    Thanks!
