  1. Hello people.
I am using Windows 2003 and Windows XP and facing problem for converting Divx(Avi) to Vcd (Mpg) format. I have already posted the query in this forum; still not much satisfied.
When I was using Windows 2000 Professional, everything was fine; but don'y remember the codec packs I used that time.
What operating system you people are using. And did you people have install individual codecs or Codec Packs like Nimo or Kazaa Codec Pack?
If Individual codecs are installed then please let me know the codecs you have installed in your system.

Please mention the OS you people using...

  2. Opionions vary from person to person.
Many folk don't like packs but I've had great success with the Nimo Lite pack using XP.

Nimo forced me to almost reformat. I had 10 times the trouble getting rid of conflicting codecs and filter than chasing the individual codecs possibly would have caused me. This was also on XP, so as wee haggis says - opinions vary!

  4. One of the things I do before I ever install any codecs is go into my Control Panel > Sound & Audio Devices (pre-XP, it used to be called Multimedia) and go to the Hardware tab to see what codecs are factory installed or installed with capture devices. I keep a list of those, and then I install something like Nimo. If I start having problems, I uninstall Nimo and then I go into that tab again and I dump everything that's not factory installed.

    It's better than reformatting.

Agree 100%. Better than system restore point too, as nothing besides the codecs are affected. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough to save a default codec list...
