  1. Okay, I'm a very raw newbie when it comes to encoding and transcoding.

I'm trying to transcode a DiVX file to SVCD using FFMpegX .7a. When I hit 'encode' I keep getting this message:

'The variable _mpencode is not defined. (-2573)'

Info tells me that the source file is encoded in 3ivx D4 4.04. I'm trying to convert to MPEG2 [.MPG] (mpeg2enc). I've chosen the exact same frame rate for the conversion (29.97).

Can anyone clue me in as to what I might be doing wrong?

  2. I need to ask you some questions so as I can locate this problem:

1/ Which OSX version are you running?
2/ Can you copy and paste me the Open.. and Save as.. fields
3/ Have you selected a preset, or manually set options (and which ones)
4/ Are you sure the error says _mpencode and not _mpdecode?

    Thanks

  3. Huh, that's weird. It starts encoding now. I may not have been using the Quick Presets before.

Now, however, I get these messages in the Terminal process:

++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] 3:2 movie pulldown with frame rate set to decode rate not display rate
++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] 3:2 Setting frame rate code to display rate = 4 (29.970 fps)
++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] Generating dummy SVCD scan-data offsets to be filled in by "vcdimager"
++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] If you're not using vcdimager you may wish to turn this off using -d
++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] Frame height won't split into two equal field pictures...
++ WARN: [mpeg2enc] forcing encoding as progressive video

Are these problems I need to worry about, and if so, how do I resolve them?

Thanks for your help, Major. I happily registered FFMpegX just a bit ago. Fantastic app.

  4. These alerts are quite normal if you wanted to encode not interlaced, and your source movie was NTSC FILM framerate.
