problem converting mpeg 1 to divx

i have some problems converting mpeg 1 files to divx

only a small bit of the mpeg 1 files is converted and not the rest.

i beginning to think that maybe the mpeg 1 files might be files that are put toghter out of several mpeg 1 files
causing only a small amount of the mpeg 1 file to be converted and not the rest.

is there a way to solve this problem.

did that already it says it fixed the mpeg header but that doesn't solve the problem.

the problem is that the mpeg 1 file contains several files put together as one.
but it seems that they still have there one time line.

so instead of mpeg 1 that's say 1 hour i have a file that's one mpeg 1 file that's 4 times 25 minutes

and when i try to convert it only the first 25 minutes are converted and not the other 3.

somehow i must see to get the mpeg 1 file to be one time stream instead of four.

but i haven't yet found the program that can do that.

Try tmpgenc in file/mpeg tools/merge and cut.

i tried it but doesn't work it only takes the first part of the mpeg 1 file and misses the rest

it's the same result as when i tried to convert.

the problem is the same it still's reads the mpeg 1 file time stream as 4 seperate time lines
i need to get it to read it as 1 file with 1 time line

but i haven't found the program yet who can do that.

You didn't say what program you were using for the conversion, but I suspect the file has some problems. You could try opening it in VD Mod, but I think you may see the same problem. There is likely a break in the file at the point where your programs don't see the rest of the file. Not so easy to fix most times. If you can't load it, you may not be able to fix it.

Your guess about bad cuts/joins may be correct. Or the file is corrupted for other reasons.

Playing a file, a player can ignore some problems. You may not even notice them. But when encoding, it has to be 100% error free.

You can try some other programs, but I wouldn't hold out much hope.

I would also check it with Gspot 2.70. It might give you some good info. If it shows a shorted video length, not a lot you can do most times. But I've seen videos that show as one hour, but there is no video after about ten minutes. Some 'Fake' videos off the net are made that way on purpose.

If your problematic mpeg-1 can be played back in MPC or WMP,
then (I guess) it's not improbable that you manage to "push" it
into your favorite encoder via Avisynth. Speaking of badly-created
MPEG-1 videos, here is the latest one I have met

Corrupt mpeg1 files can be very difficult to fix. Some cannot be fixed at all.
My last resort has been demuxing with VCD Cutter (it shows the audio as mp3, actually it is mp2, my version is 4.04) and muxing back with TMPGEnc. If that does not work, nothing else will imho.

Midzuki, good point about frameserving with AviSynth. I might try that on some videos I had given up on. BTW, '6 Girls'? I would have blanked that out. I would consider updating your Gspot also. The latest is 2.70a and it handles MPEG much better. Still no WMV, or probably RM, though.

But I will have to try frameserving for the next video I see that has those problems. I usually just toss them. I haven't seen any 'fix' programs that worked when VDM couldn't see the full length of the file. Usually, in this case, the players wouldn't display them either. But still, it's something I haven't tried, thanks.

Well, I decided to trust my old version of GSpot and renamed the file
6girls.mpg to 6files.zip in order to know what WinZip had to say about it.

i solved some problems with videoReDo but still not perfect.
it has it' s cons
1. it's payware
2. it's removes bad frames this causes video & audio dropouts

but i got some files to work and it even edits cuts where other programs didn't

if you got some files that you can get to work you can try this program,but as said itt's not perfect

a other question is there someone who has a avisynth script the let's you encode with VirtualDubmod
an mpeg file to divx with multipass

i looked over the internet for something like this but found a lot of other stuff but not this

if anyone still interested.

i solved the problem with my mpeg1 files.

i used elecard XMuxer, i remuxed the files,that gives an other problem it seems that xmuxer takes out the timestamp
so some media player play the file and others not,my dvd player didn't and VirtualDub gives you an error messages.

so i re-encoded the remux file with TMPGenc plus and the timestamp is back and mpeg 1 files plays great
video quality is as good as original file and music is also good and you can load it in VirtualDub with no problem

i tried it with several files with problems and they work great now.
