The AVI files look okay, but when I compress to MPEG1 with TMPGenc, it doesn't look so great. I see quite a bit of "pixelation".

I have left TMPGenc on default setting, but maybe I need to change it.

The video is of a bunch of dancers. When the video is of someone just standing there and singing, the quality is pretty good.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Have you changed the "Motion Search Precision" to "high"? And if you're using lower bit rates, under the Quantize Matrix tab check the boxes that say "Soften Block Noise". That helps a lot to remove low bite noise.

The advice I quoted is great, just what I'd have suggested.

But to the original poster: you're making MPEG1. It's lossy. What did you expect?
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Thank you txpharoah You've given me (and I'm sure a ton of other people) a lot of really good advice, and I've tried to learn from it
