i have a video file and when i play it on my computer, the sound comes through clear. i can hear everything. then i put it on my dvd player and i cant hear the opening scene but i hear everything else. then there is a scene with a tree and the audio is dead there then it switches to another scene and the sound comes back. but on my pc, the sound is loud and clear throughout the whole video. how can i fix it?

Could it be ac3 sound that was converted incorrectly? Maybe you're are only hearing 2 out of 5.1 channels of sound. That might explain the sound cutting in and out. If so, maybe try Headac3he and use the dolby surround downmix features.

What format is the file in (both video and audio). VCD?
When you say you tried it in your DVD player how did you do this? I burned it.
Did you convert the original into a VCD or SVCD or DVD or what? It was already a VCD.
Does the disc you created play back correctly on the computer (using the disc in the computer's CD/DVD drive) or does it have the same problem as the stand alone DVD player. Yes, it plays correctly.
Did you try more than just one model/make of stand alone DVD player? Yea, the APEX 1201 and the APEX 1200.
