Sony DRU-500A DVD recorder and recording speeds....

Hi, I installed the latest firmware (2.0f) onto my Sony DRU-500A dvd recorder to allow it to accept more media... I have an old DVD player, that requires me to burn the DVD backups at 1.6x speed... However, when I did this firmware upgrade, the recording speed selection went from 1.6x and 2.4x to 2.6x and 3.1x, meaning I cannot use any of my DVD Recordable media, as they are all max. 2.4x

I talked to support at Sony, and they said that it should keep the old speed selections and just add the new, and that the firmware was irreversible. I am using Nero 5.5.10.28..

Can any of you give me some advice on what to do?

sony support have told you wrong, go to a firmware download site and download the previous firmware or the one you were used to and download it and reflash your drive this will then revert it for you.regards nipperlocko

Ok, reverted back to the 2.0e, but now I can only select 2.4x recording...

I desperately need to be able to record at 1.6x speed.

You need to pony up $100 and buy a new player. This will allow you to play anything burned at anything up to 4x. I'm assuming you're stuck on +R because your player won't take -R. If this is true, another reason to replace the player. But if you CAN use -R, try a few - mine all burn at even multiples - 1x, 2x, 4x. It should be easy to find media that'll burn at 2x.
