You could try joining them with Nero Burning Rom. You just need to start up the Video CD wizard, and then drag both the files into the side bit that has the open space in the order that you want them, and then make sure you right click on each of the files, and click properties. Then where it says pause after track, just type 0 for the seconds (for both files). Then click apply and then burn the CD. The few times I have joined VCD's using this method, there wasn't anything like what you say. There would be many other programs to do it with, but this is the one I've used.

thanks for that but if i do that i an't going to be able to burn it to cd, it would be way to big for a cd, and plus i want to join them so i can encode it then burn it to dvd, but thanks anyway

Have you tried Tmpgenc? Just use the merge/cut option in the mpeg tools menu.

I use a very small (less than 100k) program called "FileMerger" that will let you join anything together, even multiple files
And yes, I have tried it with AVI's and it works with no problems, as I think it does no checking of what its joining, just literally joins A to B, it will quite easily join A-B-C-D and so on, the checking is entirely down to you
I use it to join MP3's together so that I can edit any parts that are mixed with previous/next MP3's. A snag with ripping 'net radio stations. The software just isn't good enough to guess accurately enough where it starts and end, no matter how much you tweak the settings -
Did a download.com and google search for "FileMerger join avi" (and other variations) but couldn't find anything. Could you please provide a link to this program, I'd like to check it out.
Thanks in advance. -
