  1. Does anyone know if its possible to put your own easter eggs in DVD's you've authored? For example,if I'm making a home movie and wanted to spruce it up a little bit. Any ideas or programs that may help me along the way?

Thanks for the help in advance

depends on how hidden you want it - I've done some stuff in DVD Lab with placing a menu item in black against a black background, like this:

    menu item 1
    menu item 2
    menu item 3
    menu item 4[*]

where the[*] is a black asterix against a black menu... you don't know it's there unless you go down to menu item 4 and then right-arrow.

I'm sure you could do more involved ones, I just haven't played around with it a whole lot - I'm still learning!

  3. I've used tools like DVD Workshop and just put a button outside the safe zone, so that it is still usable but does not appear on the screen (on a computer or a set top DVD Player).

I've also done similar things, like putting a button with the same color as the background, but when you are using motion menus where the back ground is constantly changing, obviously the button outside the safe zone is a better idea. Note this works with several other applications.

If you have access to DVD Maestro or Scenarist then you have full control of cursor navigation. You can then make a button with no sub-puctire elements that is only accessible via mouse click via a software player when used on a PC - won't be accessible from a standalone DVD Player.

You can also do things like tailor the "Menu" button action on your remote such that it can trigger an alternate title/chapter/menu if you press "Menu" during that particular chapter.

Programs like DVD WS do not give you enough control to make what I consider real hidden options, because you know they are on something hidden by the fact that your cursor is not visible.
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

In DVDWS, you could also set the transparency of the button to 99%. I have never tried this, but I am told that you can't see such buttons.

Indeed you can, and the resulting button is effectively invisible.
I have used this method to create a slideshow of menus where you can navigate back and forth without the distraction of buttons.
