Please provide us with more information about your computer and the Dish PVR501. Provide us with at least OS, capture card, capture software, ports, CPU, MB, and type of output from the dish PVR. Also where is the computer and DishPVR located, same room, different rooms, or several miles apart?

OS is Windows XP
capture card is Radeon 7500
type of output from the dish PVR - don't know. Need your help here.

You need have your DishPVR lot closer to Compture or other way around in order to user the S-Video or Composite.

Check on the back of the Dish PVR you should have outputs for composite or S-Video and audio. Use high quality video and audio cables (less than 300ft) to from the Dish PVR to the input of your capture card. Do not run the cables next to power cables(extension cords, etc) this will cause interference.
