    i have several .avi's with almost silent audio - any idea how to increase volumes? during or before conversation to mpegs

    you can pump it up in TMPGEnc. go to other settings>audio tab.

  3. You could also load the avi into VirtualDub. Just go to File > Open Video File, select your file. Under video set it to direct stream copy but under audio set it to full processing mode. You should now see Volume under the Audio menu. You can then increase the volume by whatever you think it needs then File > Save as avi and compare the two...adjust as needed

    thanks for the info, but

    i get an error - no audio decompressor can be found ?

    what kind of audio do you have? use gspot in tools section to find out what you have and which codec you need.
