What method to choose depends highly on:
- A) What do you want to rip your subs from? (What's your source material?)
B) What are you planning on creating? VCD? SVCD? DVD?

A) i am using dvd/vob files from the original
B) i am going to make VCD/MiniDVDs -
I use VirtualDub and VobSub to make my subtitles. It comes out great. Fast.

I usually rip to some text format (like .ssa) with SubRip and use VirtualDub and the subtitler filter to add the subs.
