There is a Japanese drama that is being subtitled using .ass subtitles. There are multiple fonts used. I can watch them just fine on my computer, but would really like to make a DVD so I can watch it on the TV. Is it possible to do this on a Mac and keep the typefaces? I have access to a PC, but don't know my way around that world at all, so if it would be easier over there, could you direct my to a good tutorial?

I'm sorry, but there are so many jokes that could be written in response - that is so funny - I've never heard of ass subtitles. Sorry I don't have an answer. You might ask in the ffmpegx thread as there are subtitle functiions within that piece of software.

I just did this, but on Windows.

Presumably the video is MKV, which should have embedded in it both the ASS file and any fonts it needs, as TTF files.
TTF files should be equally usable on Macs.
You can extract all these from the MKV using MKVExtractGUI (based on MKVToolnix)

(Though you could have separate AVI, font and ASS files, to begin with; MKV is a lot tidier as it includes all the resources i one file.)

I used Avisynth to render the video with subtitles and HCEnc can use that to create MPEG2, to make a DVD.

    See this thread: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/328254-installing-fonts-in-MKV-on-demand

If you want to go that way, I can give some more details.
