  1. I was watching a DVD I bought from a hawker. It works fine on my DVD player, but when I try to watch it on my netbook, the subs get weird - they aren't centered and are too big a font, so I can't read them.

I'm currently trying to rip the DVD and uncouple the subs from the video so that I can just put in new subs, but am I just making more work for myself?

My netbook's player is VLC. The DVD won't play with WMV or QuickTime but I'm not sure if that's just a missing codec problem or what.

Sorry for nOob question. Thanks for answering in advance!

Is it standard dvd with a video_ts folder with vob/ifo/bup files?

Try also play with MPCHC, file open->dvd.
