  1. I always capture in MPEG2 for now, at a bitrate of about 8000-9000Mbps VBR. I tested this setup last night with a 5min video clip...
So then I took the file and imported into Pinnacle 8 to author and burn to DVD. I then re-set the bitrate to 4600Mbps to get an idea what a 120min video would look like.
3 minutes later after the DVD was burned I popped it into my DVD player to test it out on my 27' tv... to see if the quality was acceptable to me.
After about 2 1/2 minutes the video got incredible choppy, so I brought up the bitrate display on my DVD player and it was showing the video at 11.0 Mbps!!!!!!

How did it go from 8000Mbps to 11000?????? In a scene with no action!!!!

  2. I don't use Pinnacle because it is just weird like that. I do not like the conversion methods.

What I would do is this. If you must use Pinnacle to edit (I know it is pretty easy and quick for simple editing), then output to avi with original settings. It should convert quickly because it will only have to render transitions and such. Then I would bring over to TMPGEnc and convert to DVD. I find TMPGEnc so much easier to use. I set it up so that it is DVD resolution and a 3000-4000 bitrate. I occasionally use Premiere to convert if I am editing in it. They have premade settings in there for DVD low, med and high bitrate.
