  1. Just want to run through a few settings to check if they are correct.
My firewire card shows up on device manager OK & DVCAM shows up as the Dazzle unit OK.

Using VideoStudio 4.0SE I choose MPeg-2 720x576(PAL) High Quality as my template.

I select TI 1394 as my device control & the capture pluggin is set to Ulead Directshow Capture plug-in.

I am running WIN98 SE. I have plugged the S-video+audio leads from my SOny HI8 camcorder into the dazzle unit and the firewire cable on the back of the dazzle unit to the PC.

THINGS ARE JUST NOT WORKING. When I press play on my camcorder I see nothing in the preview sceen on the PC and when I press capture the software either freezes or tells me that the device capture is not correct/working ?
Anyone ? Before it goes back on sale.

if by "back on sale" you mean you can still return it, do so and get yourself a canopus advc 100, 50 or 1394 or possibly a datavideo dac-100. similar devices but much better quality and far fewer problems than the dazzle.

also, may want to try some other software like dvio and scenalyzer from the tools section here. if you can get those to work you'll at least know your problems aren't too severe and it's probably just because you're trying to capture to mpeg with ulead.

  3. I have the Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and it can be a total nightmare. It has a tendency to drop out after a few minutes for a lot of people -- check out the scary user support forum at dazzle.com, it's got DV-Bridge zombies wandering around it, blaming everything but Dazzle for these problems, sometimes blaming the consumer herself for not having the wherewithall to fix the problems on his/her own (I'm trying to stop my Dazzle rant...calming down...now)

My problem was fixed by a workaround that a user came up with, involving looping a small length of copper wire from the firewire cable to the power cable (on the back of the Bridge). There are also some links on the Dazzle user forum site that point you in the direction of a Microsoft update on firewire problems in Win 9.x systems

Knock on wood, it's been a while since I've had a problem, but Dazzle has some real problems with both their products and their customer support. Depending on your personality type (whether or not you want to possibly deal with a lot of headaches) you honestly may want to return the Bridge. Personally, I'm not buying another Dazzle product again...

(ok, to be honest, if you ever find a Dazzle DVC 80 for real cheap like I did once, i'd recommend getting it, but only because if the price is cheap enough, I don't mind if it eventually becomes a "disposable" unit)

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  5. unfortunately it's the usual thing. You read professional reports i.e magazines, etc who say it's the greatest thing since slice bread only to find later many mnay complaints from individual users.

I think I have read enough to also now steer clear on Dazzle products. I bought mine second hand and will have to sell it in the same way.
If anyone has shares in this company sounds like you need to ditch them !!

Can anyone suggest where I can but the canopus advc-100 or I gather the internal version advc-50 in the UK ? mail order ?

I must say I have never hear of the datavideo dac-100.
