  1. Hi,

I am having some trouble converting DIVX movies to DVD format for burning.
What I have tried so far:
    1. Used Virtual Dub on DIVX movie for sound
    2. Then convert Video and Wav file using TMPGEnc to NTSC DVD format.
    3. Burn using Ulead with and without Menus

The movies will run OK for a short time then the sound goes out of whack. If I use the menu scene selection, they sometimes work but the sound never matches.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. Sorry I have no solution, but I have the same issue:

    1. I check the DIVX video in VirtualDub for frame freezes. (Never find any.)
    2. I use TMPGEnc to convert the DIVX video to a DVD-Quality video stream.
    3. I use Virtualdub to create a PCM wave.
    4. I use a DVD Authoring program to make the DVD (without re-converting the video and audio).

Most of the time, this works with most DIVX videos, however I notice the video gradually goes out of sync on several movies (Titanic, especially).

I know folks post this issue frequently, but I can't seem to find a simple explanation of why this happens and a solution that works. (I'll even try a complicated solution.)

    Thanks,

    Jim

I know this won't make you feel any better, but the truth is that you should not be having this problem.

Having video run out of sync of audio is something that is "excusable" when capturing (and losing frames), however in converting from a DVD there is no reason it should happen.

Now, the reason I'm telling all that while you are having exactly this problem is because something went terribly wrong during the process you have followed to create the DivX files, of which you don't give a clue what it is.

Are your DivX files OK? In short, if you open them in Media Player and playback seeking different parts, is the sound and video in sync ?

Out of hand, the first thing that comes to mind is converting NTSC files in 25fps (instead of 29.97). If this is the reason, then the problem you have is that the movie plays in sync with audio for a few minutes and the more you play the more it goes out of sync. Is it ??
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  4. The DIVX movies looks OK in Media Player. I am not giving up yet. I am trying some different setting in Virtual Dub and TMPG, wish it didn't take so long to convert but will post again if it works out.

    Thanks

The problem arises for VBR audio. And yes, people use VBR Audio to make transcoding to DVD/SVCD/VCD difficult. Try ripping the audio out of the DivX with AVI2WAV, then use BeSweet to make the MP2 file. Encode the video only as you normally do (TMPG/CCE).

Now, open each file and check their lengths, they should be identical. If they aren't, then there is something wrong with the original DivX. I'm ASS-U-MEing you downloaded these, and didn't backup your own? You can mux as normal.
