Interesting, when you play an MPEG 1 file using WinDVD, are the colors still distorted?
I ask because WinDVD includes its own MPEG decoder, which is somehow causing the problem with WMP.

yeah WINDVD plays it fine
problem is tho ive being doing powerpoint presentations (which uses WMP) and i need this to run them

Hmmm, many times just like this I have wished that I knew of a way to tell Directshow what decoders to use with what type of files.
The first thing you should check is to make sure your WMP is up to date. Once you have done this, open up the WMP options and go to the plug-ins tab. Now click on "Video DSP" and make sure none of the InterVideo plug-ins are checked (InterVideo makes WinDVD) are checked. If this doesn't work, go to the Performance tab in the WMP options menu and change the slider at the bottom tagged "video acceleration" to a different position and see if this has any effect. If the slider is greyed out, click on "restore defaults" and you should be able to access it.
If none of this works, there is a long-shot you can try. Download ffdshow from here:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20030424.exe?download
install it, and then open up its configuration utility through the Windows Start menu. at the top of the config menu, click on "codecs" and check the box next to MPEG1, this will tell ffdshow to use its decoder rather than the one curently being used by Directshow to decode MPEG1 files. If this doesn't work, try checking the box bext to this one called "Use Libmpeg2."
The reason I say that this is a longshot is that MPEG1 and 2 decoding using ffdshow is still experimental and may not work at all, if this is the case, simply uncheck the MPEG1 box in the config utility, it can't hurt anything to try.
Well, let me know what works and what doesn't
Good Luck,

Well, if you can't find a solution to this (although there must surely be one) I would suggest that you simply re-compress (transcode, whatever) the videos into MPEG2 format or one of the many other formats WMP supports. You can use TMPEGeng or Virtualdubmod, my favorites, or one of the many other free or cheap video compression tools out there. Since you will most likely be concerned most about speed while maintaining good quality, I would suggest the Cinema Craft Encoder, which is faster than TMPEG, but harder to find and containing fewer options.
I know this doesn't solve the problem, but it at least will get your Powerpoint presentations going in the meantime.

hey thanx for your time there
