I recently notice that Windows Media Player is showing a bunch of black space under my videos... only under not on top. About an inch at least, even when it's just the player opened with nothing playing (in skin mode... corporate skin), it has

I am using version 11 and I even tried rolling back to the older version and reinstalling it... nothing, still the same black space at the bottom.

Any ideas on what may have caused this and how I might go about fixing it. It's seriously annoying.

Is it showing the full frame of your video? I don't use WMP, because of problems like yours and others. If it's showing the full screen, then it sounds like the aspect ratio is wrong. Try changing that. Or use a different player. KM player can play WMVs and many other formats.

I'm also assuming it does this with each and every file played, irregardless of video frame dimensions or aspect ratio. It could also be some strange setting for subtitles. You might see if anything like that is selected.

The last thing could be a video card setting or driver, but I can't think of one that might cause this, though it's worth looking into. I'm not sure if WMP uses overlay settings, but if so, they may be separate from your screen settings. Try a different player, though, and that may rule out everything but WMP.

Thank you, it seems to be fixed now.

It had something to do with subtitles/captions. I hadn't even thought about that, guess I never watch anything with captions through WMP to ever think about the settings or options.

    Thanks again!
