  1. I want to save recent MPG posts of the Ultraviolet series to CD. They are 764MB, seemingly too big for an 80 min CD. I have a burner, a PC DVD drive using ATI player, and CD Creator 5. Can this be done? I'd like to keep as much of the excellent quality as I can.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  2. Are they already in MPEG1/2 format? If so they'll fit on an 80min CDR (will 800MB). If not then you'll have to encode them to MPEG1/2, in which case how much you can fit depends on the bitrate you choose and the size of the original file as NO AFFECT on the final size of the encoded MPEG1/2 file.

  3. How do you tell which MPG format they are in? One of my installed codecs allows it to play. The poster included [jwaSVCD] in its name, so I assumed it was ready to burn to SVCD. Windows Explorer properties says it is 786MB(824,801,554 bytes) in size.

If this can burn to an 80 min CDR, I assume you mean in VCD format as it is too large for ordinary data, will CD Creator 5 do it or do I need another app to do the job? When I tell v5 to make a VCD, it doesn't like the file's parameters (480x480, video bitrate 2496 kbs, audio 224 kbs) and won't add my file to the list.
    Thanks for the help.

  4. the easy solution to this is run it through tmpeg to reduce it to a vcd compliant mpg 352*288 & then use nero 5 or above to burn it to a vcd!!! okay this may take a while but at least there will be no more arsing about. By the way these are UK pal? of course they are & u know how to use tmpeg? if not look at the newbie guide & u will get the idea eventually. Have fun

  5. You can probably burn it as SVCD with Nero5 on a 80 min disc without re-encoding.

  6. Just out of interest is this series Ultraviolet any good?

And where is the site that you downloaded the mpgs from?

  7. You've got a SVCD/MPEG2 file (480x480 is the standard resolution, and ~2500kbit/s the standard bitrate, with audio at 224kbit/s).

Nero will burn it, or you can use VCDImager (w/ VCDImager gui) to create a bin/cue file of the MPEG and burn that. Some DVD players have problems ff/rew Nero burnt SVCDs.

Have you tried to overburn/oversize the CD with NERO.... With the right media and the right CD-Burner you may be able to do it...

Yes, very. It was a six part series from 1998, lasted only a year. Makes you want more. Part 5 was the best. Track the reviews in imdb.com. I saw them all, but only got 3-6 from a buddy. I am still on the lookout for 1 & 2. I'll try to find out where they came from.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to find a way to get it to SVCD to preserve the quality. Failing that, I'll try the TMPEG/VCD route.

  10. Read the files.
    Downloaded VCDimageGUI.
    Made a bin.
    Downloaded Fireburner.
    Made a SVCD.
    Played it on PowerDVD.
Fast and east; life is good.
    Thanks for the help.

These apparently came from newsgroup alt.binaries.multimedia where episode 1 is currently being reposted. Looks like 2-6 might be reposted in the SVCD group.
