Which one will encode a VCD faster and which one will result in better quality (if there is a difference at all)?
And when it comes to SVCD's, does ProCoder come close to the quality/speed of CCE?
Thanks, Happy Holidays!

ProCoder provides better quality than both TMPGEncoder and CCE.
TMPGEnc often makes "dancing" backgrounds on low bitrates and produces mackroblocks on fast motion.
CCE on SVCD bitrates produses snow-like noise and "mosquito" noise around of objects, but has much better handling of the fast motion and is much faster.
The ProCoder is slower , and it's picture is little softer, than CCE.
However ProCoder's picture is much cleaner, monochrome surfaces are better, fast motion is just fine, better than CCE. With ProCoder you can make fullscreen 720x480(576) movie even on SVCD bitrates! Try to do it with CCE!? ProCoder is very good for DVD to SVCD conversion and also it is only encoder that can produce good SVCD from DV source.Michael -

Have you experienced this problem?
When I installed both CCE and Canopus Procoder, mpg files that were encoded by CCE had a watermark on the upper-left corner that said "Canopus."
Thanks. -
I haven't heard about this, but I can suppose that when you feed your source file to CCE, CCE uses one of registered in Windows Procoder's codecs to read this file. But you have demo version of the ProCoder, and it's codecs have watermarks.

You'll need to buy the full version to get rid of the watermark, I think it's only like $600, just go to www.canopus.com to order.

$600 isn't that much, concidering what the software can do. And I hope by Other means you aren't referring to stealing the software, because that is the reason it has a $600 price tag on it instead of a $100 tag.

jsnkc, no offence but I dont know what you do for a living but where I COME FROM $600 is a lot of money, in fact it would probably feed a family of five for a year in some countries on this small planet of ours. For professional use in the western world certainly this is a reasonable price. I am using cce basic which at $58 or thereabouts is somewhat more reasonable, unbelievably fast and quality is excellent. Then again different horses for different courses eh..... Procoder is a step up the ladder from ccce basic, but if you are joe soap wanting simple fast excellent quality mpeg2 encoding it does the job nicely. I wish they would release a "lite" version of pro-coder as well though.
