What is the difference in quality when using a direct stream copy in Vdub as opposed to converting the original avi in TMPGE? I was supposing that there must be a drop in quality since the direct stream copy takes a lot less time to create. I was forced to use a direct stream copy because my video had so many bad frames. I was curious if the difference is at all that noticeable?

Direct Stream Copy is a setting you can use for audio and video in Vdub. As you said, it's used when saving a video file after scanning for bad frames. It tells Vdub not to change the video file but to save it as is. The opposite is full processing mode which allows for filtering, recompressing and several other common functions. Direct Stream does not change the quality at all, unlike full processing mode which can change it (for better or worse). You are doing the correct thing, always remove bad frames!
