Requirements -
1) Avisynth
2) .Net 1.1 Runtime http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Microsoft_NET_Framework_11/1016688677/2
Instructions
1) Unzip dts2ac3.zip
2) Rename your dts file to INPUT.DTS . Place in same folder as Dts2ac3
It will look like this
aften.exe
BePipe.exe
DTS.avs
DTS2AC3.bat
INPUT.DTS
libaften.dll
NicAudio.dll
3) Double click on Dts2ac3.bat . AC3 file will be named OUTPUT.AC3
That's it! Just make sure you install Avisynth and have .Net 1.1 runtimes installed -
Your methood is graet and work but not compleatly
My DTS file is 791MB , 2:33:11 long but the AC3 output is only 62MB and 18:54 long
I did evrything that you told me is there anything else? -
DVD with DTS only is illegal. DVD MUST have either PCM or AC3 audio in addition to DTS. The only DVD I've ever seen like this is that I have the Hong Kong DVD of Jackie Chan's _The Myth_ and the soundtrack is only available in DTS but it has an AC3 track of movie commentary by Jackie and some others. I think this film was also released in a cheaper version without DTS. That's the only film I've ever seen that doesn't have a true AC3 or PCM film soundtrack, but the AC3 commentary satisfies the requirements of not having only DTS on the disc.
I'm guessing that what happened is that you downloaded a Divx/Xvid file with DTS only sound and converted it to DVD. If the method above doesn't work, you'll have to either find another download with AC3 sound or buy a copy of the DVD with AC3 sound. I got tired of not being able to play DTS tracks, so I finally just bought a receiver that could play DTS and life is good. You could also consider buying a new DVD player that supports DTS as some do have DTS decoders. When you download files, there are no guarantees that you'll be able to play them without problems and as they say, you get what you pay for. -
so there is no way to convert DTS to AC3 even if its STERO insead of 5.1?

hi Rockas.
i too am trying to convert DTS to AC3. i tried dts2ac3 and the output was also not complete.
i then tried your program, but i get this error:
Run-time Error '6':
Overflow
i have the dts file, opened it with DAudioK, set output to ac3, selected 6ch, 48000 and 448kbps. -
Can you cut a little chunk of the DTS file and send it to daudiok_at_gmail.com (_at_ = @)?
Currently i don't have a DTS file to run any tests
If you can't, tell me... I will search my DVD collection for a sample.
Thank youMy oppinions may change, but not the fact that I am right!

Hi Rockas,
the new version worked, however, the channels seem to be crossed, as the voice seems to be coming from the right speaker. this may just be my source and maybe it was poorly done. but i will e-mail you a sample shortly. since the file is too large to e-mail, i will upload it to a file sharing site and it will give you a link to download. it is not TOO big, so don't worry (~15mb).
again, your work is greatly appreciated.
edit: sent. -
I got it... thank you.
I also sent you a little sample for you to test.
It's from a good source that way we may be certain about it.
I sent you that sample 'cause at the moment I can't test it, I'm away from home... that way I can continue working if you don't mind to run that test
thank youMy oppinions may change, but not the fact that I am right!

Jaybeam - Welcome to the forums. As a general rule we discourage people from digging up old posts and adding to them. Don't make a habit of this, but I would say that in this particular case it was not totally wrong to do so. However, a new post would also have been OK.
Please note that some of our members do not bother to check threads after they contribute to them. They move on to new subjects. Rockas hasn't posted here since September of last year and he may not visit the forums any more. I suggest that you send him a private message or try to reach him via his website. -
Hi everybody.
I'd read many topics on this forum and i never suceed that operation (DTS to AC3).
I've tried DKaudio, dts2ac3, besweetGUI, MeGUI ... and nothing of those software gave me a result.
With MeGUI i've got an error in the DirectShow filter.
With DKaudio the DTS import give a windows error which close the program.
dts2ac3 realize a 800ko file (but with an another file i suceed) ...
I've installed ffmpeg, avisynth ...
So Can you help me to convert my DTS file ?
Thanks -
You should also give a try to the "difficult" way: Avisynth ++ SoundOut plugin
( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120025 )
Good-luck!

I've tried with EAC3toGUI and it worked !
It's the graphic interface for EAC3toGUI and it's very simple.
Thanks a lot for help. -

@carlmart - follow the steps and the screenshots in this post, but for step 6, select "ac3" instead of "wavs"

Thinking again it might be better to do that on the dts file, which has higher bit count and should be less lossy, don't you think? Any way to check and change levels on a DTS file? -

BeHappy and MeGUI (based on BeHappy) are avisynth based encoders and will do this dts=>5.1AC3 conversion with the option to normalize
If you use MeGUI, you don't even have to learn avisynth to do this, just set the program paths, and enter the .dts directly into the audio section and configure the options (i.e. normalize%, bitrate, etc....) it will automatically script the nicdts() input source filter for you
Another difference is eac3to will remove the dialog normalization by default (you can disable it), the other method does not. Usually dialog norm removal is sufficient (test it out for yourself)
For pc playback, you can adjust the ac3gain in ac3filter -
My friend, I have done this last week for the dvd of LOST WORLD which had 5.1 DTS track and I wanted 5.1 Dolby track. The steps I used are as follows.
Extract the 5.1 DTS track from dvd by using " DVD AUDIO EXTRACTOR". You will have to buy this programe. This will give you option to extract 5.1 DTS to 6 mono wav files.
Open these files in Sony vegas. Check the configuration as the extracted audio does not specify the FL OR LFE channels. That you will have to find out. Then configure thro' vegas . Apply suitable gain or you will feel volume too low.
Render as 5.1 ac3.
Open Tmpgenc and open mpg tools. Here you can mux the new file with your original mpg2 video
or
Open Tmpgenc dvd author and open new project. Open video mpg2 and in place of audio select the newly made audio ac3 file and you can burn the new dvd. Chech for audio mismatch with video as I had a mismatch of 3 sec though I have processed everything in NTSC format. Now I am struggling to correct that as it starts prfect but misses the sync somewhere in between.
Kindly let me know the result.
