If you look at the page you are on, towards the top, you will see a field and button marked Search. Small field, easy to miss.

If you type 'calibration error' (be sure to spell it correctly) you will get a page full of answers (I know I did)

This is from a Nero site:

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (almost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
It's discussing CDs, but DVDs use the same method. First I would try different media, then it could be a power supply problem, especially if it's an external drive, or it could be your burner is failing.

I just had to bounce this post, just in case anyone else has encountered this issue. I spent the better part of my morning burning 13 audio CDs of old-time-radio broadcasts for an elderly friend. And out of the first 6 attempts, 3 CDs garnered the Nero "power calibration error." And while Nero may point the finger elsewhere, I found a solution to the problem (at least on my system using Nero 6.x with WinXP). It came from a post made to another forum in 2004:

I applied the fix ... and the remaining 7 CDs burned without a hitch. Can't argue with success.
