Hi.
I have the "InterVideo Video Decoder" installed. It decodes my MPEG-2 streams with some errors (last frame ist missing).
Where can I see which decoder is used (WinXP)?
I'd like to give https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=GPL_MPEG-1_2_Decoder a try. This one only extracts a file called "GplMpgDec.ax". Where shall I but this file in order to make it available to applications (= so that applications use this decoder instead of the InterVideo)?
Thanks.

Nobody knows this, or is the question not clear (shall I rephrase)?
Thanks, -
Doesn't the MSI install the decoder?
Yes it does. Just tried.

Actually I was wondering about this as well. It seems I have more than one MPEG-2 decoder or decompressor or whatever you want to call it.
I noticed that in a "shoot out" where I provided a TEST CLIP and attempted to convert it (from MPEG-2 to MPEG-2) that my output had ever-so-slightly different colors than that done by another person using the same TEST CLIP but his own computer. His perfectly matched the original wehreas mine was "off" a bit from the original.
Got me to thinking that it might have to do with how the original MPEG-2 is decoded for the re-encode i.e., the MPEG-2 decoder or decompressor etc.
Oh and I kept the colorspace exactly the same as I used AviSynth and HCenc so I never did a colorspace conversion.
So I think this question is a good question!

You can adjust the merit of the filter. The merit determines which filter is used. If one filter is unable to render the stream, it goes to the next filter.
You can adjust the merit via the registry or with this tool:

If memory serves me, Intervideo purposely sets their filter to a higher merit. In the past, I have simply unregistered that filter, so that another filter could be used.
