I searched this site for the better DVD + R media and it seems the staples and the sony seem the best. I want to purchase DVD +R discs and I remember form this forum in the past not all cd discs are the same.
WHen I reviewed the site
I feel I what I said above may be correct
Also does Sony sell different quality DVD + R under its name
Meaning even under Sony name there are different manufacturers of their DVD Discs and different qualities
I remember when I studied which was best CD quality
There seems to be few real manufacturers and these names buy them from anothe party
I even remember you had a test program on video help to see which company made the media you bought to know it was the good one
Any comments on this topic

The name on the spindle doesn't mean much,it's the dye that is used.
Verbatim DVD+R with Lead-In (MCC 003 or MCC 004) and Taiyo Yuden DVD+R with (YUDEN000T03 or YUDEN000T04) are about the best media dye you can buy.
For DVD-R,Verbatim with Lead-In (MCC 03RG20) and Taiyo Yuden (TYG02 or TYG03)
For CD-R,I would recommend Taiyo Yudens (Dye Type 1 Long Strategy - Cyanine) or Verbatim CD-R (Dye Type 3 Long Strategy - Cyanine)~Luke~ -
I do not understand your answer laspis59
Are you saying certain verbatum discs are the best
How can you tell which are which and such
Can you explain it a little more and make it easier to know what to buy
Thanks

Basically, when it comes down to media, you want to look for MADE IN JAPAN. That's about as simple as it gets.
Those Staples branded discs that you mentioned as being the best - are garbage. They may work today, they may work tomorrow, but who knows if they remain that way in the future.
Best to just try and get made in Japan discs or just by Tys from an online seller.
If you are unsure of a media's manufacturer, just check the media code with DVDInfoPro. -
YUDEN000T02 is probably one of the best 5 discs ever made. It is easily the single best DVD+R ever made. This is the 8x made in Japan disc from Taiyo Yuden, often sold under Fuji or Sony brands. These are NO LONGER PRODUCED, so grab old stock while you can. I horded about 300 of them recently for mastering/archiving, as my PVC001002 discs are starting to run a bit thin (one of the other 5 best discs ever made).
For just generally good DVD+R, anything coded with YUDEN, SONY, MCC, MAXELL is excellent. Also TDK and RICOHJPN should be pretty good.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
FAQs: Best Blank Discs • Best TBCs • Best VCRs for capture • Restore VHS -
So you're the one hoarding all the Sony branded T02's!!! I stocked up with 150 about a month ago. Haven't found any since then around here.
As Lordsmurf states, the YUDEN000T02 is as good as it gets currently. Another good thing is how easy they are to identify. Look for Sony Labeled DVD+R with a 1-8x rating. If it states Made in Japan in the UPC code area of the labeling it will always be the T02 media. Good luck. -

Going back to the original question Sony sells at least three different media under its own name two made in japan and one Made in Taiwan that I've seen. The Made in Taiwan don't even have the same quality feel as the Made in japan Sonys. IOW the MIJ edge has a rounded feel to the finger where the MIT have a square cut edge that doesn't feel quality as well as a diiferent top surface rougher than the MIJ. So My guess is that although they burn OK they may not have as good a quality over time. My personal belief is that if they take the time to worry about the feel of the disc then they probably took care of the quality too.

I have had decent results with Verbatim MCC 004 made by CMC. These will produce scans that are nearly as good as the TY. They are often available at Office Max on sale for $15 per 50.Still a few bugs in the system... -
He's probably right. All of the media manufacturers are shifting from 8x to 16x, and Taiyo Yuden is likely no exception. There seems to be enough T02 on the market to last for a while though.

If you cant find decent Verbatim then you should go with Taiyo Yuden DVD+R.TY's are made in japan as mentioned by other members in the posts above.
Its that simple. To be on the safe side get Verbatim 8x or 16x certified (Made In Taiwan not India) or Taiyo Yuden Branded by Sony,Fujifilm,Plextor ect..but be sure they are YUDEN's eg YUDEN000T02/YUDEN000T03) or Taiyo Yuden Unbranded 8x or 16x certified speed DVD+R.
Good luck.~Luke~ -

According to the information in this post. I just went to almost every store in my town (Pop. 70.000) and looks like I can't get good media anywhere.
-
I'm in the same situation. A town of about 70,000 and no place to get decent media. The only place I can decent stuff is at Wal-Mart, Made in Japan Maxell. Other than that I get everything from www.rima.com or www.supermediastore.com.

Ever ordered any ink from one of the places linked?
I do have a Wal-Mart in town but the sales are on Taiwan Discs. -

Sam's club has Sony DVD+R 8x in a 75 pac which includes a 50 pac of MIJ and a 25 pac of MIT.
The Sony MIT are almost as good as the Sony MIJ.
I recently bought some Sony MIJ 16x DVD+R at K-Mart for 25 @ $7.99 which are Sony D21. -

Verbatim DVD+R 16x is MCC 004 I've used hundreds of them Made in Taiwan.
Check the Media List on this site for other MCC manufactured Verbatims.
I don't know where you buy your Verbatim media but I'd find another vendor. -

What about their, "Value Line" DVD's? It's, "Taiyo Yuden" and "Made in Japan."

Been checking the local (Canadian) stores....lots of Sony TY 8X +R MIJ 50 packs at Wal-Mart (at least 1/2 a skid of them at the local store) along with Sony 8X MIJ -R 50 packs, same location (either type...$25CAD/50 pack). Staples finally got in the Sony 16X -R MIJ but they are way too expensive at $40CAD/50 pack. I'm still waiting for a sale on Dual Layer +Rs again. Hopefully this week on the Fujis at least. I ran out of those with the Verbatim sale at Staples a couple weeks back...
