    My new Sony nails everything.

But a Samsung I was testing did not have a problem copying a certain store DVD. But I called Samsung, and said I got lucky with that title, and they get calls all time from people who can't copy a disc.

    So:
are there certain brands/recorders that don't have copy protection? i.e. in which I can copy all DVD's without worry? thanks.

  2. If you find a LiteOn (or ILO) 5005, there is a hack available. I've got two running nicely, they can copy anything, disk, VHS, and broadcast.

You can find them on sale for $99

thanks! what does " a hack available mean" any other brands?
Do brands by law have to or are supposed to have copy protection?

  4. Hacks are software updates that remove copy protection measures. They are available around here, just do a search.

thanks Rob, newbie on this subject, so need to ask:

I assume the hack is not provided by Liteon, correct?
Are there hacks for most Burners or just a few like Liteon?
I really like JVC and Sony, later if I search, could I find a hack for those too?
Also, I'm on a Mac, so would downloading a hack be a problem? I do have virtual PC.
I assume you find the hack, burn it to a CD and then pop in in the unit.

    -Not provided by Liteon.
    -Just a few.
-Maybe some models, search here or on google. Note the "DVD Hacks" section over there <<<<<.
-No problem to download the hacked firmware to a Mac. Put it on a CD and away you go.

  7. Its always goog to have a DVD burner in your computer with good software such as DVD Fab and DVD Shrink. I really get a kick out of people who get a stand alone DVD Recorder and think they can just record "anything." Standalone DVD recorders are made to replace VHS, you know, recording your favorite TV show. Not copying discs.

    Rob/Zippy:
could you please provide a url for the software? thanks. Any recommendation where to buy the lite on appreciated as well.

Why can't we think of standalone to copy DVD disc? When I had a vhs recorder I thought of it as copying vhs rental tapes. Remember cassette tapes or mini disc? I think of them for copying friends CD's.

    Here. Got mine at Costco.
FWIW, backing up a DVD is much better if done with a computer.
