VirtualDub detected an improper VBR audio encoding

Note: I did a bit of searching but I was still lost so I starting a new tread.

I am trying to backup m futurama DVDs (but I also have a similar problem liek this with my TV DVD Recorder). I took my the DVD and used DVDDecrypter (the vods work fine with MPC).

I tried to put the VOB file into VirtualDubMod but got lots of error about the audio. When I encoded it the audio was out of sync... I then put it in Dr.Divx. That AVI files is also out of sync. I tried to sync it up with VirtualDub but when I sync up certain parts, it sometimes be de-synced a couple minutes later....

When I try to load the AVI I got from Dr.Divx I get this error:



Question: Should I try to fix this audio problem or should I try to encode this another way?

I would use AutoGK or FairUse Wizard, open the decrypted dvd and convert directly to an avi divx or xvid.

Try changing the settings on your recording device to use CBR (constant bit rate) for the audio. That might help.

AutoGK took 2 hours and 30m with horrible quality and it was still out of sync... With VDM it took like 30m, and looked good...

I just put in one of them VOB files into VDM, saved the audio stream as WAV.... It is 19:37... but the video is 14:12 (wow, :P)...

Any way to fix that?

edit: I tried to take the 700MB file I made with Dr.DIVX into a avi... it turned into a 6 hour long WAV (will be normal for a while, then it will suddenly playback old stuff)....

Why is this so complicated?

Maybe I need a good wav editor...

Its like it takes 5m, then keeps playing the same audio file for 3-4 times then takes a other 5m and does that same thing. * <- Not sure if its 5m or how many times it does it...

ok... After more google'ing I eventually stumbled upon some French forum were some French guy told a other french guy to install gspot & AC3ACM. I did that now VBM at least has the audio (now I get a previews of the out of sync)...

Its like there is one episode, then between the next episode there is a black screen for 3-4 minutes, but the audio starts during that black screen = messes everything up. It almost seems like its stretching the audio or something CRAZY...

This phenomenon is odd...

I think video editing is officially the most stressful thing you can possible do on a PC when it doesn't work.... :P

I spent a lot of my valuable hours trying all the above with the same horrible result.
Tried the trial version of WinAVI 7.7 yesterday - it did the job of XviD to MPEG2 with absolutely perfect sync of audio/video. How it does it I do not know. You can try it to see if it can do the same in reverse, i.e. MPEG2 to divX or Xvid. Only, it is not free it will cost US$30 or one is stuck with a logo entreating for purchase of the registration in the centre of the video.

ark: I didn't get any luck with that program. How did your original XviD?

Sorry for the delay. I never realized you had again posted.

I have not tried making DivX in last 5 years. I had done it (DivX Version3) about 6 years ago, using FlaskMPEG. That was another age and doing it using a P2 took almost 8 hours for a 150 min movie!! It was not an easy task.

I will give a try converting MPEG2 -> DivX using WinAVI and let you know if I succeed. WinAVI description says it is possible to do it.

I gave a try with WnAVI trying to convert from VOB to Xvid. The experience was not very encouraging. Mostly the WinAVI program crashed after clicking on <ADVANCED> button for selecting the parameters for encoding.

So I am out of ideas on how to solve your problem
