Got a stack of 100 for $19.99 plus shipping by ordering them from this page:

    http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-100.html?WT.mc_id=060825emailDVDCo...DVD01X0375-100

    and using this coupon code:

    tai20poff

And when I ordered 100 CD/DVD paper sleeves, they knocked the $7 price down to $4 (since I ordered media at the same time).

    Not a bad deal.

Thanks, ordered 100. Code doesn't seem to work with more than one order, but no problem. I needed some paper sleeves, so thanks for that part also.

Just ordered a pack of 100. I've been buying TY 8x DVD-Rs from RIMA (TYG02) and had had great success. With the exception of burn speed should I expect any less quality from these value line DVD-Rs?

I use these 4x value-line TYs all the time. I run into the rare bad disk ... but not that often.

This is from the Supermediastore Q&A-
What is Taiyo Yuden “Value Line” DVD media?
“Value Line” DVDs are made by Taiyo Yuden but don’t meet their high standards for premium DVDs. Then the manufacturer sells them as “Value Line”
That really tells you everything. It tells you even though they are TY's they are 'B' grades, as admitted by the store itself ...... Do you really want to risk it haveing been used to using the 'A' grades ?
Come to think of it, when I did buy some of these a couple of years ago I did have a few go funny on me, such as watching a movie and it would suddenly skip to a forward point on its own etc. Now that you KNOW they are 'B's stick to the A grades.

If one is looking for true 4x TY DVD-R, those value line discs are the only option.

I use the regular quality TYs for DVDs. The Value Line is fine for data backup or a quick burn. Even if they are 'value', they are better quality than some of the name brand discs. Just be aware of what you are purchasing and what you plan to use them for.

People assume too much. "Value Line" does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with the discs. There are any number of reasons that media manufacturers will downgrade.

The last batch of Value Line discs I bought from Supermediastore had some large percentage of discs (50-75%) with streaks in the dye. They are VERY hard to see unless you're in flourescent light (like in my kitchen) -- I went nuts trying to figure out why I was getting big PIE and/or PIF spikes on them and walked all over the house with a disc and happened to notice it. Amazingly when burned on my Plextor 716 they usually stayed within DVD-specs (PIF<4) even when they had a big spike of errors at the dye streak, but I definitely do NOT trust the discs they way I trust TYG01 from "premium" lines.

Buyer beware, when you a good disc they're AWESOME but the bad discs may have issues...

Maybe I'm confused here ... just burnt my 1st disc from the pack of 100 TY DVD-R 4x that I order from the Supermediastore a few weeks back.

The 1st one burnt well ... it burned at 6x (I limit all my burns to a max of 6x) ... post-burn scan went well ... everything just like what I get from the TY DVD-R 8x that I've been buying from rima.com

In fact the discs from the supermediastore look just like the ones from rima.com ... both the tops & bottoms ...in fact, they have the same media code (TYG02) ... they appear to be the same disc ... these value line TY DVD-R 4x from the Supermedia store appear to be the same discs as the TY DVD-R 8x I've been buying from rima.com

It appears that these discs (at least the ones I have) are the same but "sailing under two different colors".

Post-burn scan was good but not as good as the TYG02 from rima.com. The PIE scan using Plextools was about the same between the two discs but the PIE/PIF scan using Nero Tools with my Sony DVD-ROM showed some slight differences. On the rima disc, 2 is the max PIF I've seen, on this scan I saw a three. The scan was still good but slightly worse than what I've been getting with the ones from rima.com.

The coupon has expired, according to this site.

It's a non-issue anyway - the 8x DVD-R, Premium, is only around a few bucks more per 100 after you include shipping, because the shipping isn't free on the 4x like it is on most of the other Taiyo-Yudens. It's almost $9 on 100.

Still, for the folks who NEED 4x media, I'm sure this is good to know. Thanks for the head's up.

EXACTLY the same experience with my Value Line from Supermediastore. The dye streak is very hard to spot. When I use the VL discs, I go under a bright light and try to find it so I could use it for throw away burns, but sometimes even upon close examination, I'll miss it, burn important data and spot it while inspecting it again. You gotta get the right angle and right lighting to spot it. I was pissed off that I had to check every damn disc for this. It's too bad, a bunch of my discs from my first year of burning are from the VL stock. I have like 400 of them thinking they were the greatest thing because it's a Taiyo Yuden and everyone touted it as being the best, regardless of it being Premium or Value Line.

I used to run the PIE/PIF scans on most of my discs when I first started burning. The results weren't up to spec in comparison to most TY users but they were still a good burn. I stopped testing these discs because it's just tooo much work and tooo time consuming to be testing every damn disc. I just burn it, play it for a little bit, archive it and hope for the best. Now I use nothing but Premium TY's. I scanned some of them when I first started burning and the results were much better. I'm worried about my burned VL's going bad on me because of the dye streaks. What if it spreads in the coming months and years and destroys my video
