Does it happen with all video sources?
What is your video source? A blu-ray that you decrypted first or running anydvd?
And try open the job1.avs and see if you can play it windows media player or mpc. -
I had the exact same error with V1.14.4. Tried V1.13.3 and it worked fine. The rest of my error is:
x264 [error] ratecontrol_init: cant open stats file
x264 [error] x264_encoder_open failed.
That's the second time that V1.14.4 failed on me, so I just went back to the earlier version. -
I'm having the same issue (same exact error) as the OP with all of my encoding attempts. I've ripped my bluray discs to my HD using AnyDVD HD 6.5.8.7 (newest version afaik). My job1.avs file will also open and play properly in WMP.
Here's my currently installed versions:
RipBot264 v1.14.4 (previously had the same problem with 14.3, updating to 14.4 didn't change anything)
ffdshow rev 3092, 2009/09/27
Haali media splitter 1.9.42.1
Avisynth 2.5 -
Try an earlier version and see if that works. I use 1.13.x and 1.12.x and neither seem to have that problem. The program is just a .exe, so doesn't need to be installed anyway. I don't know if it's a bug with the newer versions or RipBot or just my version choices of the required peripheral programs.

Tried V1.13.3 and it worked fine, so that is a solution, strange thou
thanks guys. -
Yah, I downloaded 1.14.1 and so far it seems to be working fine; although, I'm only 15% through the first pass atm, but I wasn't ever getting past 2% using two newest versions.

Try this:
32 bit http://jeeb.fiveforty.jp/x264/1281/x264.exe
64 bit http://jeeb.fiveforty.jp/x264/1281_x64/x264.exe
Make sure to overwrite the one that's already in there.
