So the commercials are starting to really pop up on SYFY for STARGATE UNIVERSE.

Is anyone here as curious about it as I am? I haven't done any online rumor hunting so I'll be pretty fresh when it comes out. I don't want to ruin the surprise too much.

One thing I would like to know is if there will be any recurring characters or actors from the SG1 or Atlantis? Or will this be a whole new gig?

Whole new group. No characters from the old shows as far as I have been able to find out.

Kind of supposed to be a darker stargate show. Online speculation is that this is going to have a "Battlestar Galactica" feel to it.

I'll watch it if they put it up on their website or hulu. Otherwise I wont as I don't have cable or satellite anymore. I hope it's decent though. I enjoyed both SG1 and Atlantis alot.

Yep without Star Trek (gone what 4 or five years now? Maybe 7??) Stargate was all we had for good scifi. I never really got into BattleStar Galactica (the new one, or the old one for that matter ).

But at least it will keep the story going.

SO if this is really supposed to be a different universe as opposed to another galaxy then it might be a different need than just a zpm for power? Maybe all the dimensional stuff they always do in Star Trek and even Star gate?

All I know is that they are lost on an ancient ship a long way from home and the ship isn't working correctly or something like that.

Yeah I never was a BSG fan either. The original battlestar was okay but I never could get into the new one.

I'm hoping that they get this one right. We need some good new scifi.

Have you seen the new "Defying Gravity" on abc? While the story line is slow it is intriguing me. Keeping me interested enough to watch it every week. I'm trying to figure out what this "beta" is they keep referring to.

@freebird - nope haven't seen it yet. I generally don't watch much network tv. Heck I don't watch much new tv shows at all. Except for food network (Diners, Drives in and Dives and GOOD EATS) I really don't watch too much "new" shows. Just usually reruns and stuff.

@lordsmurf - thanks for the link. However I think I'll keep in the dark for now. Keep it interesting until it airs.

yeah, I'm like you, i like to keep in the dark till the last minute. Too much talk before the action kills any hope or ideas of what its all about. Anyway.

Since I don't have tv anymore. I don't know what's going on, period. Ever since analog went off the air, so did digital, so it seams. No channels come in on any of my ATSC receivers and devices. What a crack, this HD and digital nonsense was after all. Anyway.

It sounds interesting, but I'll have to pass, for obvious reasons. Who know..maybe i'll rent the series.

OAN, I did see they have most of the Star Trek OS on HD-DVD sets. They are in different colors for each season. I picked up the first season

Well this wouldn't be broadcast on OTA anyway. It's a scifi ( or is it now syfy ) original series. I'm hoping to catch it on their website or on hulu.

If it's not available online then I guess I'll also have to wait for dvd release.

yeah, I suspect that there are many people who got short changed in the promises of OTA digital, me being one of them. Very disapointed indeed. Personally, I liked analog very much because I found that the bitrate they distributed for their broadcasts were high bitrate and the video quality was excellent, the downside being the noise, but that was acceptable. But with (HD) digital you can forget quality. Anyway.

I will wait to hear more of this series. Anyone know when is the planned star date ?

I actually am very happy with the digital transition. Of course I live in rural area with very little building or tree interference with line of site. I get so many more channels with dtv than I ever got with analog. Analog I only got two pbs stations. Digital I get almost all of the stations offered in my area now. It was good enough for me to cancel my satellite. Of course my brother, who lives in a very wooded area with hills surrounding him actually lost several stations. He's pissed. Line of site issue for him.

Living in new york I imagine that you are having issues with neighboring buildings interfering/blocking your signal. Guess DTV is a mixed bag for some people. Worked great for me but knocked you clear out of getting any tv. At least there's hulu...

I'm going to check it out, looked interesting from the commercial I saw. Liked the movie, but I didn't really get into the other Stargate series shows though.

    Well anyone watch it?

I recorded it and watched it Sunday.

I won't get in to details for those who haven't seen it yet.

I am not too impressed yet. It seems like a little too much of a rehash of scifi staples.

I'll give it a couple of shows before giving a final decree on it.

Funny you bumped this. I just got through watching it about 2 hours ago. I thought it was ok.... A little jumbled and kind of slow in parts but the first couple episodes of any new series are always that way to me. Like you, I'm gonna give it a few episodes before I decide if I like it or not.

Stargate Atlantis, just on a ship in space instead of an ocean

Yes, I'll watch at least a few more shows in the hopes that it will turn into a hybrid Star Trek series

I intentionally avoided any information about the series and wanted to go in 'cold' with an open mind. I was a little disappointed with the first episode esp with the premise...people lost in space aboard a ship trying to get home. Been done a bit and recently too, with Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek Voyager, and Farscape. Each admittedly different in their on way, but similiar basic premise.

Also, I was disappointed one of what i thought would be a main regular cast member is just a guest star.

After seeing the 2nd episode I thought it was pretty good, but a few things didn't make sense to me. I'm going to continue to watch and see how it goes.

I think the ship is pretty cool and I like the special effects for a show.

I just watched part three of "Air". I think I can say that I'm gonna like this show. This episode was pretty good. Much better than the two part pilot.

    Really ?

I thought the "3rd" one was kind of boring.

Hey, let's walk around this desert for a half hour!!

I was kind of mad because i wanted to know where the two people ended up that went through the gate to a different planet.

And unless it was because i was fading in an out on the "3rd" episode, it seemed to be a good mystery what the hell that little mini sand "tornado" was or what the "person" was ?
Was it some kind of alien taking that form from his memory ?
Was he hallucinating from the heat and lack of water ?
How come he did not tell anyone what he saw ?

    Did i miss something ?

I did like the first (two) pilot episode and it seems (fingers crossed) like it will be a good show.

    But only time will tell.

I wanted to know the same thing about the 2 going to the other planet...stupid to make a big deal about it, and then not show anything.

They showed a short glimps of a man's head after the whirling sand went over some liquid. I assumed that was to let us know it was an alien.

The alien was never in his mind. He was hallucinating about some priest that raised him as a little kid. That whole thing was really over done..The writers waisted time on that instead of the other people on the other planet.

Unless they revamp the writing staff, the show will most likely suck

I thought the first "regular" episode for Universe wasn't too bad. Granted they kind of had to "finish" the two parter the tone is set. I think it will work out ok. Though granted it is kind of a retread like others and myself have commented on.

I think it will take some time for some flow to develop with the characters.

I always think back to Star Trek TNG. The first two seasons were pretty rough around the edges. It wasn't really until season 3 when Mcfadden came back as Crusher and Pulaski was removed and Guinan was fully established that it got going.

Season 1 was pretty rough with the original Trek music cues that were over the top and Crosby's Tasha Yar didn't really seem to fit in well. Not bad just not gellin'.

The same was true for SG1 in my opinion. It always takes a series a little while to find its groove and start rolling. I think Universe has potential.

I wish they would be able to dive more into what they were talking about with the Ancients dropping off Stargates on planets before they went there. That would be good for more background.

How do you know he was hallucinating ? It could have been the "alien" taking the memory from his mind. 8)
As it used his face and the "whirling sand" used it to draw his attention to the "liquid" 8)

After this last episode, it had some good moments, but i'm thinking they better pick it up a bit and stop throwing in irrelevant extras to take up time!!

I also wondered if they have some plan to show at a later date what happened to the people that went to that other planet, although it would have to be some time off as they are constantly moving farther away faster than the speed of light and can't even control the ship yet!!

And now they are heading into a sun!!!!!!

Yep - not to mention the shuttle that broke away from the ship in that other episode also.

And where are the ancients? Wouldn't they be a little curious that somebody stumbled on their gate planting ship they left zooming around space a few million years ago?

Well maybe the idea was they'd GATE to the planet after the gate was dropped off. Then they'd hook up with the ship.

Yeah there isn't any fun stuff either. Eli is the only one that's remotely likeable - but in a Wesley Crusher sort of way if you know what I mean

I also didn't like them using that song "breathe" or whatever in the first regular episode after the pilot. Kinda distracting and not in keeping with the other Stargate series.

I don't know her/their names offhand, but personally, i pay more attention to the young chick that befriended him and the blonde chick that is not supposed to be there, the medic that quit previously and ended up getting stuck there by sheer chance.

It certainly is not that dude!!
