Does it need to be perfect, pristine digital quality? The quickest, easiest way is just to record from the audio outputs of the DVD player.

However, if you need a pure digital copy of the sound, you will need to rip the DVD to hard drive with a tool like DVDFab, then extract the audio track using DVD Audio Extractor, then edit down to the selected sound clip with Audacity. All these tools are in the Tools section of this site. Some freeware, some payware.

FYI, with the latest Audacity 1.3.7 Beta version you can import/export AC3 audio with ffmpeg library installed..

Ah! Thanks for that bit of info, t0nee1. Instead of paying for DVD Audio Extractor, use PgcDemux (free) to pull out the ac3 audio track. Then, just open it in the NEWEST version of Audacity.

  5. You can also get the AC3 track direct from the DVD in the DVD-ROM by using DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode.

    I concur.
Allow stream processing, and grab the audio stream direct, just pluck it out of the VOBset.
