  1. Hi all,

Im looking to get rid of my cd collection. Taking up too much room. Should have done this years ago.

I'd like to rip all my cd's to my PC and then convert them to MP3 so as to put them on an mp3 player.

Any ideas for reliable programs that do each or both of the procedure?

Thanks a ton boys and gals.

I used a program called Mediamonkey a few years back, one thing you're going to want to look for is one that will look up the songs to tag them correctly.

You cna do this with literally hundreds of progams... MS Media Player will do it too, just go into the options and switch it to MP3 as the format.

  3. second mediamonkey - it will also allow you to automatically look up songs to tag them while it rips to your hard drive (as MP3 or .wav or other formats i think.

i've always had good luck with dbpoweramp and the lame codec. the yahoo/musicmatch jukebox is not a bad program and it rips using the fraunhofer mp3 codec as an added bonus, along with organizing and playing your music collection. almost all rippers will lookup and autotag mp3s from online databases.

CDEx is my fav too. Does some of the error correction of EAC and a lot simpler to use.

word of advice - use max bitrate on first rip into whatever format you use (mp3, wma, aac, etc..).

If you intend to put your cds into deep storage after the rips then you'll have a very good quality "master" file of it to work with. Then depending on the storage capacity of the player you use you can shrink it later. Just don't get rid of the first ripped file or you'll have to rerip it again to get a good quality starter file.

Then again if you get an 80gb or larger mp3 player you can actually leave it on the original full quality rip - OR if you don't have that many discs you could leave it as uncompressed wav if your player supports it. Though at 700mb roughly per disc for wav you're looking at a LOT of space needed for a large collection.

FYI you can easily use windows media player if you want it will rip to mp3. Though I believe other software is faster.

Good advice, I agree mp3s should be ripped 320kbs CBR, why bother with anything less? I mean, really? You'll never hear the difference.
