  1. Hi to All. I have a video clip taken on the deck of a ship during a cruise. There is the continuous humming noise of the ship engines. I am trying to get rid of this by using the audio filters of Vdub and also the tools of Goldwave. Up to now I have no success. How can I get rid of this noise? Could somebody help please? Many thanks.

Audacity's noise removing "effect" is pretty good.
    Get the latest version 1.3.3

You'll also want to find the frequency of the hum. In Audacity, highlight a small section of only the hum.

    Then,

    Choose log frequency

With a band cut filter, you'll be able to dial in the frequency to cut

  4. Find a period of passage that the hum is very distinive and find out what frequency it is.

You should able to filter it out with a band reject filter.

If the hum has a low frequency then you can use a simple high pass filter.

  5. Thanks a lot for the info. I am a newbee in audio matters. I selected 12 seconds of sound where the noise is distinct and analyzed it. Here is the spectrum graph. Could you please tell me which frequency to use in which filter. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    That link is bad.

I think you can't attach wave files.
Try zipping it, I'm pretty sure zips are allowed.

Make sure the size of the wav or zip does NOT exceed 2MB

Most of the rumbling comes from the 100hz and below range. Here's your audio with the <100hz lows pumped up to hear it.

    noise02_95hz.mp3

The hissing is in the 4K-7K range

Other than voice, what other audio of interest are you trying to hear? Voice needs parts of the 1000-5000 Hz band. you can filter out below that. Seagulls etc. are higher frequency. Music will be tough to isolate.

  16. Thanks a lot folks. Following your advices I managed to suppress some of the noise. If I go further manipulating the sound the conversation becomes unclear. Your help is greatly appreciated.
