  2. I have used the e20 panny and its something in the way it makes its files. What I have to do is reauthor the disc on my computer using another application like movie factory 2. dvdshrink and dvddecrypter dont fix the problem. I can get them to play on my blaupunkt player, but not my apex's.

Do a search for the e20 (or e-20) and there is information in some of the posts on how to correct the problem (it will require wasting a dvd-r though).

I believe there is an option in the DMR-E80HS to select "DVD-R Compatibility". I don't know for sure as I have the DMR-HS2.

Try turning that feature on and see if it helps. If it doesn't, then its due to the way DVD-R's are authored with a Panasonic, they seem to have compatibility issues when they are played with other DVD players. Its pretty much seems hit or miss. Also, even if it does play, it may not play correctly (ie, lose the functions of FF and RW, this happened to me on a APEX 5131).

I suggest you use the DVD Compatability mode at all times. I have been doing some tests and other than media problems (Memorex Prodisc 2X), I haven't had a problem with the DVDs produced by the Panny not playing on other people's DVD players, including on players that won't accept things like SVCD on CD-R. I also suggest that you check the DVD Recorder forum at www.avsforum.com as it's been most helpful for E80 and E100 owners...

  7. I wanted to add to this (and other posts regarding the E-20). I used TMPGENC dvd author and now my E-20 dvd's that would only play in 1 player, play in many.

Oldfart, my E80 is on the way, should be here tomorrow. You're not the first person saying if we don't turn this feature on, that the dvd-r disks made from this machine aren't very playable in other players. Can you easily tell me where to find this when I get it so I can go ahead and turn it on? It seems like Panny would have made this the default option if it makes such a difference.

    Thanks!
