Help. Just putting together my first SVD. Using VCD Easy. I have sorted the actual file recording - and tested it ok. NOW .... all I want to do is have the simplest of menus on the DVD. Just a number/name for each clip.

This is proving a problem. Do I need to make 'chapters'??? Why? The whole process of making this basic menu seems overcomplicated, despite me using the guides available on here, I would really appreciate an idiots guide to menu's.

Just need to understand what 'chapters' are really. Do I need them? As I said ...I just want a very simple menu that's all.

Chrisa - you're not supposed to bump your own topic until waiting a few days. It says it right under the warez rules on each post you do..

Maybe people have skipped over yours because it's something you could have easily looked up for yourself?

Chapters are just markers that let you advance through your video to set points. Like every 5 minutes, every ten. Whatever you choose.

You do not have to have them. Don't put them in if they are unimportant to you and you don't want to learn how to do it.

BTW. There is an excellent Glossary right on this site on the left.

    Good luck with your menu.

  4. No. You don't need to make chapters. The numbers for your content relate directly to the position in which you put each mpg segment on your VCD.

    Example...

    VCDEasy MPG list:
    1. MakingStarWars.mpg
    2. WayneNewton.mpg
    3. CheechChong.mpg
    4. PeoplesCourt.mpg

Without a menu, to view the segments on this VCD you would press 1 on the remote for Star Wars, 2 for Wayne Newton, etc.

To make this work with a menu, you must go to the INTERACTIVITY page and assign number keys to each segment.

    Detailed guide here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/84327.php

Remember: A menu on a VCD is really just a graphic to tell the user which number to press to watch particular segment. You assign which number plays which segment.

I say this because the term "chapters" used to confuse me. I thought "chapters" were actually the segment numbers, but they're not. Chapters are really just markers WITHIN an individual segment.

Gees. AS mentioned, I HAD looked through the guides, but, as I am a total newcomer to this game, some of the terminology was over my head.

Rowman. VERY much appreciated, thank you. I thought that the chapters were the actually clip numbers, hence the confusion. I will now go and test out your method. Thanks again.

If you re-read - I pointed you to the Glossary for when terminolgy is over your head, not a guide.

Having read guides doesn't entitle you to go against forum rules. It was friendly advice for future reference - because you are new.

Best of luck with your project.

After looking at this, it still seems rather over elaborate and time consuming for what I want.

I am basically transferring a couple of hundred music video snips from VCR to SVCD. So, as you can imagine, creating a still for all of these would be a nightmare!

What I want to do is just have numbers appearing on the SVCD menu, which I can then choose from the tv screen. I will put the more detailed info (ie what clip the number relates to) in the CD cover.

So .... if not with VCD easy, is there any other program that will enable me to make such a simplistic menu?

Nice trick. PM me a bunch of baby BS, misread or misinterpet or misunderstand everything and then leave that.

For the fourth time - good luck with your project.

  11. I believe Nero will automatically create a simple menu based on your clips, but I'm not sure as I haven't used it in quite some time. VCDEasy offers much more versatility in the menu area.

Sorted. Been playing around all afternoon and have cracked it using Nero Vision Express. VERY simple to use, and excellent results.

Thanks again Rowman, for your help.
