Using Subsync for subtitles fails on one title

I've had excellent success with Subsync until I ran into a subtitle and mkv, both English that Subsync skips through and gives the error 'couldn't synchronize' with no other information. True the video and sub are from different sources. On the mkv I re-saved and renamed in Toolnix then put these saves into Subsync. Same result.


What Ive done on this just see if it works is use Google AI for the question. The response on that source said likely a corrupt file. But
the video mkv and the audio play fine. I was just looking to get a refined sync which was off enough to make it a pain to read.
What would checking for a file corruption look like?


[edit] I just reloaded a previous jov in Subsync and that worked fine.


I may just use the internal play/start arrows in VLC.

When I have video/audio and subtitles are from different sources I've had better success synching them by using Clever FFmpeg GUI and running the audio through "Volume detection" to maximize it and reencoding the audio (I use AC-3). I'll run the new audio and subtitles through "Subtitle Speech Synchronizer". This usually does the trick. YMMV.

Thanks for the reply. I've used cleverFFmpeg very minimally and FFmpeg command line not at all. I will take your advice and see how far I get with it.
In the meantime for this one vid., the problem is just annoying. Subsync is a valuable tool and simple to use and I hope this was just a file glitch.

It will attempt to synchronize subtitles to the audio in a video. I've only used it when both the subtitle and the audio are in the the same language.

OP here I've seen and tried to use the two screen synchronization system. And there is a help screen that Nikse has for it.
But in this case I had some success using the "brute force method" of synchronizing with the first option and making several manual adjsutments.
What I said about VLC was incorrect. That's only for audio to video matching-- not subtitle. Even with MediInfo I couldn't get a read on where the problem was though, since this is a third party acquisition, a bit foreign language appears.

I consider this solved but not by using Subsync which is no longer being updated..
