    Hi!

Is anybody here familiar with Nero video?
I use it quite regularly for burning shows to dvd, ranging from 1-2 hours.

My latest one is not playing ball and is turning a lot of expensive dual layer discs into beer mats!
Nero is up to date and I’m using it on windows 11 on a pretty high spec pc.
I’m using Verbatim DL dvds, same ones as I normally use and I used a lot from the same batch on a previous project without any issues.
The usb dvd burner was bought in may, but since these problems started I have replaced it again.
I have bought more DVDs to eliminate that as well.
Now and again one will burn successfully but maybe 1 in 4 at best!

I am getting various errors from the log files including

There was an illegal parameter in the command descriptor block.
Could not perform write, device not available.
Error 1066 invalid field in command.

I have replaced the burner and the cable and the dvds.
I have reinstalled the software and checked it’s up to date.

The project I’m burning uses 6.96gb of DL disc.
Ive re exported the video files in all sorts of formats and bit rates, resolutions etc but I can’t get to the bottom of it.

Can anyone please shed any light on this for me?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

From the software POV, the simple answer is NOT use Nero. It was good back in the day but is now just bloatware.

There are much simpler, and better, and free, softwares to create and burn to dvd.

But your problems could well be hardware related. Not the actual burner but the USB connection. If your OS takes over the connection then any burn will fail. So I suggest you also look at what is also using the USB.

    Just my two cents.

Thanks for the advice, I have very minimal devices attached via usb, literally just the mouse and keyboard.
I think I eliminated any possible hardware issues so I decided to uninstall the software and remove any trace of the program before reinstalling again, and now it’s working, not a single failed disc!

So I’m putting that down to a bug in the program and I won’t be short of beer mats this Xmas!!
