Hi everyone
Im trying to re-use a pair of speakers from an old AIWA System, probably making 2 portable speakers with a bluetooth/mp3/usb amplifier powered by a couple of 18650 batteries but ive been unable to find some info about the speakers, from the reference on the speaker ive found out it belonged to the AIWA z-2300 stereo system and found the following on the manual online:
i unscrewed the speakers and the it says 6.5w, is there a way of finding out what the "power" that the speakers accept or perhaps someone can decipher what is printed on the speaker.<Amplifier section>
Power output Front (without connecting to the
SURROUND SPEAKERS)
Rated: 50 W + 50 W (6 ohms, T.H.D. 1
%, 1 kHz)
Reference: 60 W + 60 W (6 ohms, T.H.D.
10 %, 1 kHz)
Rear (Surround)
Rated: 8 W + 8 W (16 ohms, T.H.D. 1%,
1 kHz)
Reference: 10 W + 10 W (16 ohms,
T.H.D. 10 %, 1 kHz)
Center
Rated: 16 W (8 ohms, T.H.D. 1 %, 1 kHz)
Reference: 20 W (8 ohms, T.H.D. 10 %,
1 kHz)
Total harmonic distortion
0.1 % (30 W, 1 kHz, 6 ohms)
VIDEO/AUX: 300 mV (47 kohms with
volume)
PHONO: 250 mV (47 kohms)
MIC 1, MIC 2: 2.2 mV (20 kohms)
LINE OUT: 200 mV (47 kohms)
SUPER WOOFER: 1.9 V

As per the manual
Reference: 60 W + 60 W (6 ohms, T.H.D.
10 %, 1 kHz)
So each of your speakers is rated 60 Watts (8 Ohms)
Now, you are powering up with a 18650 battery (3.7 Volts)
Power = IV and I=V/R ==> Power = V^2/R = (3.7x3.7)/8 = 1.7 Watt
Speakers have a minimum power input before the woofer moves.
A supply of 3.7 volts providing 1.7 watts may not be sufficient to move those woofers.
Even if it does play, with a current draw of 3.7/8 (~0.5Amp), your battery will quickly die. -
Hi Gromyko
Thanks for your help, i was unsure because the sticker on the speaker was showing 6.5w, but that must be something else.
I have 8 18650 batteries available to use on this project.
Once again thanksI love it when a plan comes together!
