    Hi everyone

I've just updated my PC spec and have a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro
Trying to get my encoding processes back up and running and I seem to be almost there, but I'm stuck at the last hurdle.

I've got the same version of Virtualdub, AVISynth (2.6.0) and AVFS in place - everything is x86
I don't believe AVFS requires an actual install per se, I've just put the files in place and run the required vc_redist.

I can get avs scripts to open in virtualdub and it lets me activate frameserver.
I run avfs and it says it's running but when I look in the volumes file it doesn't have the any files other than the avs and log
    log file states

    "AVIFileSource: couldn't open file 'c:\VDub.vdr'
    (c:\serve.avs, line 1)"

I've tried changing the location of VDub to a different drive and adjusting the serve.avs to point to it but makes no difference.

I'm wondering if it's to do with AVFS not working properly or the frameserver not working.
Or is there something that I've failed to install?

I've worked out all the other niggles along the way but I've been trying with this one for the past hour to no avail.

    Any ideas?

(and a random question - can I use avfs directly in the avs script I'm taking into virtualdub (assuming I'm not doing any further work in Virtualdub) and if so, how would I go about doing that?

    Thanks

OK I was being a bit dim with the last question.
Obviously if I just use the avs script file that I'm putting into Virtualdub as the avs in the command line with avfs it would work.
    And it does.

So it seems the issue is that avfs is not working when I try and load it from the frameserved file, which will be a problem if I'm doing more work in virtualdub rather than everything in an avs script.

Do I need to do something with virtualdub to make the frameserver work properly, even though it appears to be?

  3. Did you install the vdub frameserver with auxsetup.exe ?

    https://www.virtualdub.org/docs_frameserver.html
How do I install the frameserver?

The frameserver is an integral part of VirtualDub, but you will need to install various clients. There is an auxsetup.exe application included that will install the AVIFile client; directions for installing the codec (VCM) client are in the help file. In addition, there is an aviproxy directory in the binary distribution which will allow you to boost the AVIFile client into proxy mode, the most compatible mode.

No I just copied the virtualdub folder from my old setup. Silly me!
I'll have a go at this later, thank you.
