I downloaded some wmv clips and they have an aspect ratio of 1:1 VGA and I want to convert them to vcd or dvd with an aspect ratio of 4:3. is there a way that I can do that without screwing up the quality? Whatever I tried the quality was destroyed. I was using tmpgenc and trying all different settings to get it so the quality won't be effected very much, but to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reencoding will make the quality worse. But if you encode to dvd using the highest possible bitrate it should look pretty good.

Is the source good? what is the frame size?

For the size (320 X 240) it is as clear as can be. They are music videos from http://launch.yahoo.com that I streamed and downloaded onto my computer.

    Hello,

You could try encoding to halfd1 - NTSC 352x240. That shouldn't stretch it as much as 720x480.
