  1. I have a 5-minute mp3 file that I need to cut the first 30 seconds from. Anybody know a good (free) way to do this?

    I haven't used it much but I think you can do that in audacity.

    If you want other choices there is a section to the left that says "Tools". There are several audio editors listed...some freeware and some not.

    I also recommend MP3DirectCut , I've used this several times to cut long beginnings or endings from mp3s and it is a great tool.

  8. Thanks to everyone for their replies. Audacity worked fine, and I may try MP3DirectCut later on to hear what it produces. It's 1:30 AM here now and everyone else is asleep so I can't really tell how well it worked, so off to bed it is for me...I'll check in the morning...
